Ok, how bad would a used dual ~2.5GHz Power Mac G5 suck?

They are a thing to behold. I can almost swing a couple of Cinema Display HD 23"ers I found on Craigslist, but they are double my $500 monitor budget alone. We'll see. I think I'm set on a G5 now to tide me over for a year- glad we were all able to talk this out. :P Thanks for everyone's...

Bingo- and as long as that's a year from now, or whenever pre-owned Mac Pros become more affordable, that's all that my expectations are set for. Surely a G5 with dual procs and at least a few gigs of memory can run Leopard, CS3, iTunes, and Firefox... if not, how did they even sell in the first...

Good point- thanks for noting that. Any components in particular? I'm plenty savvy enough to replace anything when necessary, but a high frequency thereof could be a turn-off. I honestly just need a G5 to last me about a year so I can get introduced and used to OS-X, before picking up a proper...

Indeed, but would any Power Mac G5 tower, upgraded to Leopard, serve my needs or are they too old and not worth touching? My $800 tower budget is the crux of the matter here.

Halp, I'm slipping! Already looking at a 'newer' xw6200 model with dual 3.6 Xeons, 4GB, and perhaps even giving Vista a go... sleeping on all of this, will check back in tomorrow.

Nada- wouldn't make any business sense at current iPhone data rates for AT&T. But yes, if you can Jailbreak the thing, you can tether it as a wireless modem. HowardForums.com has at least one good thread on it describing how to pull it off, in their Apple forum- just saw it today, and I think...

Good idea/bad idea? 7600GT HSF transplant to 8600GT board

Yep, two-wire power- everything is surprisingly similar. So I decided to go ahead and take a crack at it by chance. Well, the HSF off the 7600GT isn't rounded off enough at the NE corner to get around a capacitor on the 8600GT... crap! But wait, the fans themselves look to be about the same...
