It's usually best to stick with 3 pin connectors for smaller fans and 4 pin for larger (92mm +) fans. There are adapters that let you change from 3 to 4 pin and vice versa if needed. Usually, fans used on a CPU heatsink use 3 pin fans while general case cooling fans use 4 pin since they are...
Spawn69, I would have to say the best cooler for FCPGA is the Alpha Pep66 w/ Y.S. Tech fans. Peltiers allow extreme cooling which is also and option but you would probably have to design you own peltier setup and condensation could also be a problem that you would have to take into...
If I understand correctly the problem happens when you increase from 5v to 12v. If that is the case, it seems like the fans are using too much power to spin up. Kind of an artifficial brownout in your system. You might want to try setting up the fanbus to spin the fans up in different groups...
The Global Win FAB28 is a good quiet heatsink that is specifically made for slot1 Celerons. With the case closed you should not even be able to hear it. They are fairly inexpensive too.
Athlons are picky about power supplies. Based on the components in your system I think you could get by with a 250w. However, with the Athlon there may be a problem. In other words, I think you have enough power to run the components, but the quality of that power may cause the Athlon to...
I like cases to have slide out trays and drive bays to make it easy to get to stuff. The iMac cases that fold out are cool, but they are too proproietary of course. I saw in another thread where there is a company making a case that folds out like a Mac, but they still didn't have it quite...
They are both good for the money. The "Dual Overkill" (aka: Vantec P3D 5030) is slightly better than the slot Orb though. Since the Vantec costs a few dollars more it's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth it. Either cooler will do a good job though if you don't plan on...
I'm sure that can be done, but it would be somewhat complicated to design a system to do that for a computer fan.
As an alternative you could run the fans at 7volts instead of the stock 12volts. That would give you about 63CFM of air each. To connect a fan to the power supply for 7volts you...
The copper area that contacts the CPU should be polished to a near mirror finish. Alpha wraps their heatsinks in plastic bags to keep them from 'tarnishing.' If the heatsink has been used/touched alot and exposed to air for long enough finger prints will start to show up. The finger prints...
Different systems have different cooling situations and that can make blowing better than sucking or vice versa. But, for most situations sucking air through the Alpha works better. Even Alpha recommends it that way.
To be absolutely sure, you just have to test it in your specific system...
HisMajesty, you can get some fairly detailed info on applying thermal compound from my website. The link is:

Good luck :)

Lark may very well be right unfortunately. However, it is worth it to try to get the Orb in good contact with the CPU. Lapping the Golden Orb certainly won't hurt the situation.
BTW: sandra is well known for giving inaccurate temp readings. Don't let them bother you too much. :)
The Alpha P3125 might cover the first DIMM slot, but no more. You may not even lose the first one though. If you have at least 65mm (2.6") of clear space between your CPU slot and DIMMs you will have room.
The P3125 has a fairly good retention system that includes a couple of tabs at the...
Looks like a great system.
You didn't state if the hard drive was 5400 or 7200RPM. If it's not 7200RPM then spend the extra cash for a hard drive that is. It looks like you know what you are doing though. :)
That Asus MB should be sweet. Good luck.
