I thought BS was a GS-7 and Masters was at least a GS-9. Phd is around a GS-11.

Trying to fix friends comp...missing ethernet adaptor..?

it sounds like you don't have the correct drivers for the NIC card. I'm not sure but does a NIC card's link light still come on if the drivers for the OS aren't present?

Does this mean anything, or is it just a "warning letter"?

i thought that peerguardian just provides block lists from IPs known to be used by RIAA/MPAA to gather evidence against you? what type of encryption does that offer?
