If it has to be Intel I'd look for a laptop with the six core i7-10710U. It has nearly the performance of the H parts in a lower power package especially for short duration workloads. Maybe the MSI Modern 14 or 15 would work for you? They are light and portable and can come with the GTX 1650...
If it's a higher refresh rate monitor, 120 Hz or higher, than the 3600x could be worth the extra $100. The 1600 AF will work well though and is the best value.
It's reliable but the R5 3600 numbers seem to be around 15%-18% too high. If those are accurate that would be amazing. They could be for overclocked CPUs. Based on the promoted IPC improvements and clockspeed increase from the 2600 I would expect the 3600 to score around 2550 single thread...
It isn't per these benchmarks:
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2070-Mobile-Max-Q-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/m703511vs3603
The 2080 Max Q closes the gap a bit but it's still 15% behind. The desktop parts just have more power to work with and the laptop versions can't keep up. The 2060...
This is an interesting idea. Here is the PassMark comparison to your current chip: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Xeon-E5-2697-v2-vs-Intel-i7-3930K/2009vs902
You'll get about 1.4 times better multithreaded performance with the Xeon but your single threaded (important for some...
I'm not sure what your sorry for. According to Passmark for stock speeds (though I do have my CPU overclocked) the 1600x has a few percent lower single threaded performance and the 2600x has a few percent higher single threaded performance compared to the 3570k...
Yep. Even if it's only an eight core part hitting 5.0 GHz with increased IPC it will be really tempting. If it actually hits the leaked numbers it the 3700X will be four times faster than my overclocked 3570k at multithreading and actually have increased single thread performance!
You really don't need to spend $100 on a power supply. Newegg has the Corsair RM550x and RM750x for $70 which are top PSUs that don't even run the fan until they are heavily loaded. The RM550x will be more than enough power but you could get the 750W version for the same price if you don't...

I tried 1280x800 on my Korean 2560x1600 monitor that only has a DVI connection and no scaling built into the monitor.
The AMD scaling that is done is much worse than I expected. Everything is fuzzy. It definitely doesn't just map one pixel to four for the higher resolution. Is there a way...
