    Linksys Router Port Forwarding Issue

Hey all, I've got a question about the best port forwarding solution with my Linksys 4-Port cable router that I use for my house. I would like to use BitTorrent to its full potential (like, better than 4KB DLs) but would really prefer to not have to use static IP routing (there's a notebook on...

    Microsoft mouse replacement

Thankfully it was the mouse that crapped out, not the focus group. A rather small group, too, although it still would have been unpleasant.

    Microsoft mouse replacement

Somebody said something about Logitech earlier in this thread, I know this is slightly OT but anybody know what their policy is? I have a Logitech Dual Optical that they gave me for some focus group thing I did that took a sh!t on me, wonder if they'll replace it...

iPod/iTunes Possibly Causing HD Read Error? Refusal to Boot? Anyone Experienced this?

I posted a few days ago with a problem involving my hard drives mysteriously screwing themselves up in some way or other. First my D drive corrupted itself anf then C: wouldn't boot. I reinstalled WinXP and was on my way again, but today, the day after this whole fiasco got fixed I am...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Well, I'm writing from the previous broken machine. It works again, and all my files are still here. Have to do some reinstalls but having most of my files preserved is awesome, and definitely the best that could be done. Thanks so much for your help!

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Unfortunately it was already set that way. Creating another one just like that and attempting to boot from it didn't work. I have both those files there, is it possible that hal.dll actually is corrupted, im which case I would need to copy a new copy of it from the WinXP CD on that drive?

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Okay, here's what it looks like after I confirm I want to use fixboot: "The filesystem on the startup partition is unknown. FIXBOOT is attempting to detect the file system type. The boot sector is corrupt. FIXBOOT is checking the file system type... The partition is using the NTFS file system...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Well, tried fixboot and fixmbr, neither of which managed to fix my problem. Still says a read error occured. I don't get it though, because while it does fixboot it tells me it detects that it is a courrupted NTFS partition. If it knows that why can't it just fix it, at least to the point where...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Alrighty, got it to boot from CD with both drives attached to the mobo IDE. Repartitioned and formatted that 60GB drive, so that's all cleaned up now, but the 200GB still won't boot and the partition info on the screen in the WinXP disc says that the entire drive (except for 8MB, as always) is...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Just to update: I do have the BIOS version you mentioned, so we can take that off the list of prossible problems. Also, I was able to reformat the other drive and now with that drive completely clean and the other one in the state it has been in I still have the error. The error is, as I said...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

It is a Promise TX2 controller. As to the BIOS version I do not know, but that's a very good question and I'll check it out as soon as I get home (I'm writing from school). It had been supporting that 186GB drive as such for quite a while with no problems. If it is using an earlier BIOS version...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Good advice, yielding new results but not the ones I wanted to see. Still has a read error on the 200GB C drive, which is not detected when connected alone to the ATA controller card, and takes a long time to be detected on the mobo's IDE bus. The D Drive IS detected alone on the ATA controller...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Alrighty, thought about that and did it after that post. Still says there's a read error. Any other suggestions? Really hoping these two drives didn't just decide to die on me at the same time. Any chance it might be a mobo issue? Just thinking about that due to the fact that not only is the C...

Major Problem in WinXP Home. NOT BOOTING, CORRUPTED D Drive...

Over the weekend my computer went from being a wonderful performer to losing its will to live. This is the first time in recent memory that a problem has arisen that has been so devastating as to not even let me repartition and reformat. On Sunday last week my WinXP Home Edition box began...

(Dead) Maxtor 160GB 8MB Hard Drive with FREE ATA/133 PCI card $69.99 AR & coupon at Staples

Dumb question: If/when I buy this drive can I use the controller card to use it as a third drive? I have been putting off buying a bigger HD for a while, but my current two just aren't cutting it. The problem is that I am too lazy to back up everything with my inconsistent and lam CD-RW drive...
