Cheap Internet Hosting

1and1 is what I use for hosting. The cheap package is only $3/month (year subscription), gives 5GB webspace, and 250GB transfer. Also includes 1 free domain. For $5/month you get double that, plus extra tools. Control panel for admin stuff isn't too bad either.

I need advice for a wireless/wired router

Should i go GIGABIT? & Can i use shielded Cat5e

Thinking of jumping into networking as a possible career path, what is good to know?

Is winxp professional right for this system?

v.90 or v.92 dial-up

From a quick google of v.90 & v.92, it looks like v92 is a bit faster. Supposedly there is faster uploads with v.92, and the connection time is a bit reduced over v.90. Call your ISP first to ensure that they actually support v.92 (or v.90, though it looks like most do already).

recommendation for partitions

I don't think I can answer all of your questions...but i'll give it a shot. Having seperate partitions for everything but your OS is mainly for organization. If you have your OS on a different partition, it could make retrieving files easier if your OS goes bad on you. You could in theory...

Service Pack 2 Gaming Impact?

If you run before and after benchmark tests, you might notice. Realistically though...nope. I haven't noticed any difference. Like Jambo said, you can just turn them off.

What's the difference between these ram models?

Depends if your board can handle it, or if you're going to overclock it. going from 2.5 to 2 only gives a few % increase in performance if i remember correctly. So if you're going to OC a lot, i'd go with 4400. If you're not at all, stick with the 3200.

What's the difference between these ram models?

No idea. if you zoom in on the chips, the numbering on the chips looks like the same on both. Can't say for sure though since it gets kinda blurry. It isn't the same picture either, as the model corresponds correctly too. Only difference I can see is that the cheaper one is in stock!

laptop hard drive died, i need the data

If you have access two another computer, I would recommend downloading Knoppix, and booting that. If it sees the HDD, you can use a windows share to transfer the files over to. Use smb://ipaddress/foldername on the laptop running Knoppix, ip address being the other computer, and the foldername...

what's the bext gaming mouse out there??

I was using a version 1 intellimouse explorer until it died recently. Nice mouse, big buttons, very comfortable. I replaced it with a MX510, which I like quite a bit. The scroll buttons on it are a nice touch, though it's got a different feel to it. Haven't had any problems with it though...

DEAD -Everquest 2 YMMV -DEAD

JBoots came with the starter kit, not the collectors edition. Still though, don't get the CD version...it's 10 cds :confused:
