Appreciate that! At least gives me a place to start, before... had no idea what to look for.

Question Need a hard drive (platter or SSD) w/ a physical sector size larger than 4k

Software tester here, and seems we run into an issue when installing SQL Server on Win 11 on drives w/ a larger than 4k physical sector size. I've checked (using fsutil fsinfo sectorinfo c) 5 of my work machine drives and they are all either 512 or 4096. So of course SQL Server installs fine.

Question 2017 iMac 27" 5K - Drive upgrade question

Currently has 1 TB fusion drive (so spinning drive on SATA3 connection and some proprietary blade drive, maybe 32GB, in the PCIE slot.... from what I've read). Can I clone to a SSD then take out both drives and be done? Or do I have to "destroy" the fusion drive setup some way?

Question Unknown device on network (IEEE Registration Authority)

So to get it to disappear from being listed in Network and from my router device list, I had to boot up the Polywell unit. Enabled network sharing. Then I could ping it. Powered it down. No longer in Network and fell off the router device list. Man that was driving me crazy.

On my goodness... work sent me a SFF PC to test a specific type of software interface to our access control system. I know we source these SFF units from a company called Polywell. I think I know the culprit now, thanks man!

Question Unknown device on network (IEEE Registration Authority)

Noticed an IP I wasn't familiar with (192.168.1.218). Had a MAC of 50-a4-d0-91-3d-90. Router shows it is "hardwired" into my network. Won't respond to ping. Clicking on my Network icon on the desktop shows a device named "PC". Looked up MAC and it belongs to IEEE Registration Authority...

Question Constant hard drive activity after hot unplugging SATA drive

Wanted to format an old internal 1 TB drive SATA drive. Powered down server. Connected power and SATA to hard drive. Started server. Deleted all partitions, formatted drive. Here is where I think I goofed. I hot unplugged the SATA connection. Then disconnected the power to the drive...

Hardware specs for server running 20 virtual machines

I've been tasked to build a machine that can run 20 vm's. This is for a mobile training class, where 20 students will use their laptops and remote in (via TeamViewer) to their own vm (running Win10 Pro x64). The only software installed on these vm's will be our access control program and SQL...

Secure/recover a lost/stolen laptop

I have a huge investment in a DTR gaming laptop. Since I travel a bit for work, losing it or having it stolen is a big fear. Any recommendations based on personal experience? Something that dials home/takes webcam pics/give GPS location, etc.?

Need a Gaming Laptop - $3000 Budget

I have a P870DM3-G (7700K, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GTX 1080, 1440p 120Hz G-Sync 17.3" LCD... and LOVE IT! Especially if you buy from a Prema Parter, you get the custom BIOS which truly unlocks the power/potential of this beast. Super quiet at idle. Seems there have been some updates to my model...

Free sFTP Server

Tried Cerberus FTP 8, worked great, then the home/personal license expired and now it's $499 for sFTP support. Any recommended free (or low-cost) sFTP server programs for Windows? Running Win 8/8.1.
