Have a new intel build that has usual problem where it reboot about 5-10 seconds of starting an OS Install. Post and UEFI Bios is just fine. I have tried Windows 11 and it rebooted 5-10 seconds, plus tried Fedora Live, Ubuntu Live (including CMD install mode), AlmaLinux, etc.
I did get the...
I have been putting off upgrading my old i5-2500K workstation for years now.
I am considering the Intel 10850K because it fairly good budget price for 10 cores. Note, I have MircoCenter locally that has it $319 (plus another $20 off with MB).
I am planning on running a couple of Virtual...
I am looking for the highest CFM fans in the 120mm and 140mm sizes.
So far this what I found on Amazon:
Ultra Strong - 200 CFM 120mm fan
Bgears b-Blaster - 308 CFM, 140mm fan
Are the best CFM I can get? Any other choices out there?
I am thinking of building a new home NAS to replace my old CentOs one. One of shortcoming of my old setup is amount of tinkering and CMD usage needed to get everything setup.
Looking at the best OS system for home NAS let me to QNAP's custom QTS os for their NASes...
I have been comparing my speed increase from the Core2 Duo E8400 in 2008 to fasted CPU I got, a 3770K from 2012.
In UserBenchmark, I see a 440% increase in Mixed Multi Core, 110% in Single Core, and 275% in average user bench, 209% Effective.
How compare 6 years ahead (to CPUs in 2018) my...
I was looking to these two utilities to disable Windows 10 Updates. Has anyone have any luck with either of them or have any other Utilities for disabling updates?

Hey guys, I was thinking it would be interesting to go back look at our CPU upgrade interval. And then discuss what type of performance in you look for before upgrading.
Pentium MMX 166 Mhz (1997)
Pentium III 866 Mhz (2000) - I am thinking 4-5x performance boost.
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4 ghz...
I have looking into high end platform s and looks like multiple Intel X299 based MB can be found under $200. That pretty great price considering somehow AMD TR4 MB starts at $300+.
Usually with AMD system the MB platform cost is lot lower than Intel. Is AMD intentionally keeping the prices high...
Yes you are absolutely right about RAM. As I will have 32 gb of DDR3 left when I upgrade my main system, it made sense to reuse. This save me $300-$400 on new 32-gb of ram by sticking to an older platform for the server.
I with all this $$$ I have saved, I am eagerly waiting to see what more...
Hey, Thanks for the good info guys.
I definitely agree with you, I already ordered a small boot NVME from Amazon. I will probably get another SSD to put my VMs on too. Thats good info on the 3770 too. About 2 years ago I spend money on AMD's bulldozer APU for family member. Those have decent...
I was thinking about doing major upgrade on Linux Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU machine since it HD died and I need reinstall OS anyhow. I actually already tried and received a DoA Ryzen 2700 CPU/MB combo, so I sent it back.
Now I am thinking of doing a much minor low cost upgrade. Here want I am...
I am trying to get two nvme drives connect to one of my 3.0 PCI-E 16x slots. Its on my home server so I don't want to waste 8x PCIE's 8 GB/s bandwidth.
So far I only found card that handle only Nvme and one SATA m.2 drive. There is a high end Asrock $100 card that supports four Nvme to PCIE at...
Yeah, adding in extra PCE-e add on cards in future plan when I need expansion. Right now, I just want to stick with what the board has. Most of these boards seem to have enough PCI-E 16x width slots that I can use.
Thanks for info, I will go ahead an get the Gigabyte X370 gaming K5 for now.
