4850 refuses to display AA/AF

Recently my 4850 stopped displaying either AA and/or AF in the following games: Oblivion Morrowind Call of Duty 4 Bioshock Fallout 3 Counterstrike Source Age Of Empires III NBA 2K9 ..after upgrading to the 8.12's all the way from the 8.8's. I used to play all these games with 4x AA...

Dual core or quad?

It just makes so much more sense to get a dual core.. cheaper, faster, run cooler, higher o/c potential, more cache, lower power consumption.. You will benefit so much more from a dual core processor capable of being overclocked well over 4.0ghz, than two cores that may or may not be taken...

My 4850 vs 8800 Ultra Comparison

24x AA = useless test. This is an absolutely ridiculous overkill of AA to even care about. 4x MSAA is all you need. In which case the 4850 handles at 0 fps difference over having no AA enabled. So the test is very misleading in this sense. For free 4x AA alone and a few extra FPS in all games...

any way to add non-recognized games to recognize aa/af settings??

I have a few games that, even after enabling Catalyst AI and even after trying to rename the .exe to "Oblivion.exe" still won't recognize my 4x/8x aa/af settings. Then there are also a few games that seem to only allow AA through the game, but I find that the card will handle 4x without any...

radeon hd4850 fan speed?

I would increase it no matter what. 40 is the magic number. Theres NO difference in noise from the stock setting going to 40, since it seems like 40 blends in with the average case fan.. and you are looking at a good 20c drop in temps, idle and load.

8800GTS 320MB Vs 9600GT 512

Nothing earth shattering, but it will definitely outperform it. My 320mb 8800gts was fine until i tried to add in some aa.

My gtx 260 vs. my hd 4870

Was AA enabled in game, or was it enabled in CCC for the 4870? I've found that you will really only get the free AA if you enable it through CCC.

Will I notice a Huge difference

thats pretty silly.. If you upgraded to either a 4850 or 4870 you would immediately gain free AA. Whether playing with no AA enabled, or with 4X AA enabled, your fps will be identical. If you have ~$300 to spend, your best bet imo is crossfiring two 4850's.. unless you end up like me...

radeon 4850 Crysis performance?

Hmm, my 4850 is running crysis on my hdtv.. im actually playing it on a controller, as i only insist on kb/m for multiplayer fps. Anyway, im playing it at 1920x1080, High settings, and 4X/16x.. if you are playing any game with 0X or 2X with a 4800 card you are just silly btw.. I get a...

HD4850 vs 8800GTX

Vista, thats really your call. Performance will be identical, and all the kinks are pretty much worked out by now. You might just have to look for a few new vista drivers for some of your things. But personally, i'm fine with XP and have no real incentive to upgrade to vista. As for the video...

this site is using 8.6 drivers.. i found the 8.7 drivers gave a performance increase all around.

hd4800's AND AA??!!

Thanks for the info.. I'm surprised that I didn't hear too much about this prior to buying the card, but I guess it was pretty awesome finding out on my own that I no longer have to stress adding in AA! Also nice to know since this means we 4800 owners (and hopefully all cards in the future...

If alt-tabbing out of games is not accurate, how else are you to check? Play the game in windowed mode? I'm just checking temps from CCC. Why would this number not be accurate?
