can I specify which GPU to use for which apps?

Nvidia Optimus did exactly this -- for apps they knew would benefit from GPU the rendering calls would be done by the 'external' GPU. "Under MS-Windows the nVidia driver also provides the option to manually select the GPU in the right-click menu upon launching an executable."...

My people have a words for that in our language we call it "Linux on the Desktop." But more seriously, this control panel is using Qt widgets, which means cross-platform. It'll be running on OSX and Linux as well as Windows. Not all that horrible, considering.

Deciding between which Android phones is very difficult!

My wife *LOVES* her OPO. No issues aside from the ever so slight yellow tint on the bottom 1/2" (every OPO has that, it's a backlight design defect), fast, battery lasts forever, responsive. But it doesn't have an official OTA Android 5.0 yet.

Not port, recompile. Unlike Android where most of the apps and OS services are written in Java, iOS apps are honest to goodness ARM executables produced by an ObjectiveC compiler, linked to libraries also produced by same compiler. It wouldn't be a huge effort to do the same sort of thing...

Building old computer for 1990s games

Meanwhile, in Linux land... WINE runs many, many ancient Windows games perfectly. This is where having a 5-10 year lag in development compared to "real" windows pays off. You can even have a Wine configuration with DirectX 5 while another has 9c, side by side. And different games running...

9to5 Google claims this is the Nexus 6/X.

I'm sure they will sell hundreds of these to the right buyers. With iPhone now being offered in larger screen sizes the key advantage Android devices have is price. Priced the same as an iPhone 6 (which will likely have a $200-$300 trade in value 2 years from now while the Nexus 6 will not)...

Budget gaming pc suggestions

I was pleasantly suprised by the performance of a $170 cpu/mboard microcenter bundle for the AMD 8320 and Asus a5a97. It's $10 more today, but still not terrible. Unlocked multiplier, so I notched it up to 4 ghz, threw in 12GB of ram and a R270. About $500 in total parts if sourced new...

Free Raspberry Pi Type Board From MS!

Yeah, why on earth would I want this when I could get a proven, well understood, huge community Pi pretty much anywhere including Microcenter for $30-$35? Also lost nothing but a few minutes of time, so can't complain. Still feels like a completely flubbed effort.

Verizon, you won.

Same with my Nex4. It was starting to feel a bit sluggish. What I did: full backup of OS, apps and data, load a new ROM with format of FS, re-load apps from store and restore ONLY data. Back to like-new!

August was T-Mobiles biggest month ever with 2.7 million gross adds
