Sanity check before RAM purchase

I have a Dell XPS 8700 with 4x3gb of ram, 12gb total. I want to upgrade and would be fine with 22gb and was looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... Would that work fine as 2x8gb and 2x3gb = 22gb total, or do I need it all to match and buy 4 sticks of the...

Thanks, I suppose that is the closest I can get to it. I will give that a try! Will they still be allowed to create new folders themselves that they have access to?

Actually you have it backwards :). I need to block just one file, and allow them access to anything else. The backup is not the issue it is them having access to the information in that file.

I wasn't sure which forum this goes in, but this seems the closest fit. I have a xenforo forum that I run. I would like to give one of the admins FTP access so they can install plugins, themes, etc. However, I don't want them to have access to the database info (username, password, etc)...

Q9450 running very hot

I am running a Q9450 with an Abit IP35 Pro in my new build. I'm cooling it with and Arctic Freezer Pro 7 in an Antec 900 case, so the case has good airflow. CoreTemp is reading idle temps of around 53-55C on the hottest core, with Speedfan giving me temps around 50C. The built-in A-bit...

Putting together a new build for video editing

I am looking at building a new rig and am wondering if it is worth it to spend the ~$200 on a C2D 6xxx model or the $250 on the e8400 or Q6600 over just spending the $50 on an e2180 and overclocking it. I am going to be doing quite a bit of video editing on it, and other than that mostly day...

Computer says sound is working fine...but no sound comes out

Ok, this is pretty weird. After I plugged the headphones into the back (got sound through them) and removed them, I plugged the analog connection back into the receiver and it worked! I don't know why that kicked it off, but that's now working. However, the main goal is to get all this...

Hmmm...I had tried headphones into the front port but never the back. Just plugged them in the back and they worked. Still no go on passing through the receiver though, which is odd since this is replacing another computer that was passing the sound through the receiver in exactly the same way...

Can't boot from cd.

I have a home-built computer that has Vista on it, and I am trying to wipe that and install Windows XP MCE 2005. However, I cannot get the thing to boot from a CD for the life of me. I go into the bios and change the boot order to boot from the CD-ROM. Then, when it's starting up it says...

I'm not seeing anything about Raid in the bios. If it helps, that "press F3 for Raid utility" has always been there (several years) when everything was working fine as well.

65w AMD 4000+ running hot...

As I mentioned in the OP, 46C is just after booting up. Put any kind of load on it and it immediately jumps higher despite the fan running at 3k RPMs. The goal is to get the fan running at about half that speed and still maintain stable temps (which given the reviews of this processor should...
