My vote is also for the Sony DRU-510, but the Plextor dual dvd-writer should be out soon. This can write to DVD+R at 8x speed(whenever this media becomes available).
Might be worth waiting for the Plextor. If you need a drive now, then the Sony is better choice.
The only way you will lose one of your IDE channels is if you are not running your SATA drives in raid mode. You will be forced to map your SATA controller to Primary or Secondary master if you are not running in raid mode for the Intel SATA ICH5R controller.
