HOLY **** Big problem

Or there's a jumper on the board, I think it's yellow on the Solteks, and is at the bottom on the left hand side, just below the SATA IDE ports on the bottom. Just change it's position, wait about 30 seconds, change it back, vaola.

Spontaneous Reboots

If you're getting a CPU fan error I'd definately investigate that first, make sure the fan is connected to the proper power connector for it. There is one specifically for the CPU, but there may be others that are used for other system fans, make sure the CPU fan is connected to it's designated...

Damaged CPU?

I'll have to agree on this one. I've had an overheating CPU nerf a good install of Windows before, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to test an alternate CPU just to confirm Window's death then make your replacement decision from there.

DirectX 9.0c issues

Well, I'm gonna throw this out because I think it's worth mentioning... I think it's bad CD keys that are causing this, unless someone can confirm that it's definately not related. DirectX 9.0c will just not install on a pirated copy of WindowsXP, period. It'll run setup, it'll start, but...

Where about what I find an event log? If it helps narrow it down, DirectX acts as though it's already got 9.0c installed, but it doesn't.

I've recently purchased The Sims 2. To my misfortune, DirectX 9.0c just doesn't want to install.... Period. It'll run the setup, say it's all ready (1 nano second later, having clearly not copied or installed anything), and good to go. But when I run dxdiag it comes up as 9.0b, which just...

help! windows won't install...keeps getting blue screen

I'd say check the temp of the system/CPU/PSU, I've had heat issues cause the exact same problem you're describing, a reapplication of the thermal compound fixed my problem. Might not be your problem, but would be worth checking into at the least.

PC Hang/Hard drive failures...

I'd say clean the system inside and out, make sure all the fans are clear of dust and that the PSU doesn't have any major dust build up inside of it (don't open it!). As far as your harddrive issue, the drive could just be bad, it happens sometimes. Typically bad clusters can be cleared up...

Fresh install of XP, HDD ...

Is it a SATA harddrive? My SATA harddrives are listed in the safely remove hardware option as well. I think you can hotswap SATA harddrives, but don't quote me on that.

SATA disk - need help

I'm trying to install a single SATA harddrive, specifically a 250GB Maxtor 7200RPM SATA drive on an Soltek motherboard, model SL-K8AN2E-GR. The drive shows up in Setup when I enter the BIOS, but does not show up when the SATA/Raid controller looks for it. I've tried a number of combinations...
