I don't think Intel chips are overpriced. All data points to AMD chips being underpriced in order to break into the market and prove themselves. AMD desperately needs to start generating profit, so that they could reinvest it into the next gen tech. The design is risky, takes years of upfront...

Could any one kind soul please educate me on the 2nd figure in the post above. It seems to show that the temperature in the center is around 1100 Kelvin? Do chips really get that hot? My physics senses are all firing up and telling me that silicon transistors don't function at that temperatures...

Your hardware already looks to be top notch. I would probably consider looking into further software optimization instead of chasing the absolute best hardware on the market unless you have other reasons to. Then Skylake-X won't meet your requirements. Threadripper is rumored to support ECC...

I agree with you that usefulness of AVX-512 looks rather questionable when memory bandwidth is taken into account. In my prior experience with the HPC guys their large problems have always been limited by memory bandwidth and the node interconnect technology. That's why supercomputing companies...
