Then I'm confused. I'd always thought all I had to match was the socket (they're both lga 2011) and the the arrow. The notches are definitely not lining up when I seat the cpu so that the corner with the arrow is in the same corner as the one on the motherboard bracket.
So I have an evga x79 classified, and an i7 4820K. When I seat it so that it lines up with the arrow as I've done everytime i've built a rig, the notches don't lineup. Is this normal? They're both lga 2011 so I didn't screw up while ordering. I just want to make sure I'm not about to fry and cry.
I tried downloading from Dell's site (which is where the Alienware site redirects you if you purchased after 2009). No dice.
The Catalyst Control Center icons are visible from the Windows 8 start screen now, but when I try to open the screen all I get is a message saying

I'll start off with my specs:
Alienware MX17 R4
AMD Radeon 7970M
Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit
So I tried installing the drivers from the AMD site using their system detection tool. I download and run it and get a message saying "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatable...
Funny that you posted this at this time because I'm having the exact same problem and was about to post the same thing until I scrolled down the board.
None of my new sent items are showing up in my sent folder. I'm still waiting to hear back on the pm I sent a few minutes ago, but I've had...
When I initially setup my network it was only being used by PCs. My sister brought her Macbook over, and the connection became very flaky. I'd have to reset th erouter every thirty minutes or so. This would happen every time she brought it over. It can't be a coincidence or isolated thing...
I plan on buying a GTX 285 within the next few weeks to take the plunge into pc gaming. I'm looking for something in the same vein as COD Modern Warfare (can' get enough of it for 360 :) ).
Suggestions?
Yeah I wouldn't depend on Windows 7 if I were you. It won't be worth installing for at least 3 months after its release if history serves, so I'd just go ahead and switch to Vista 64. I just did, and the transition was seamless(almost). As long as you have enough ram there's no definitive...
Ok so I'm setting up an XP/Vista/Ubuntu boot for the first time.
Installed XP. Set up and formatted partitions for Vista and Ubuntu.
Installed Vista from within XP
Booted into Ubuntu.
Now, I'm at the partition window in Ubuntu. I plan to resize this partition, allocating 10gb for...
I have two rigs, one with 32-bit XP and the other with 32-bit Vista. My original intention was to give MS a while to fine tune the 64 bit OS' so to speak, and give developers time to release stable drivers; I just never got around to upgrading or staying abreast of the alleged issues with the...
