    China develops 64-bit workstation CPU

Zebo, that's a very interesting hypothetical question and I honestly don't know the exact answer. I do know that periods such as the cultural revolution and the great leap forward hurt China a great deal and set the country back for many many years. Other than that, I can't really speculate on...

Adjusted CPU FSB clock- did I kill my PC

While I don't think almost tripling the FSB frequency without adjusting any other setting is a good idea, the CPU is likely not fried. Try resetting the bios according to your motherboard manual. It is usally about setting a jumper, waiting a few seconds, and then resetting the jumper. If...

    China develops 64-bit workstation CPU

After reading this entire thread, I feel that I should try to dispell some of the misconceptions regarding China and the people living there. First of all, let me say that I was a Chinese citizen who immigrated to the US in the early 1990s. I am not an expert on either country, but I can share...

How to recognize the Venice from the Winnie

I would say if you have a good AGP video card then stick with the Neo2... otherwise go to the NF4 platform with a PCIe video card.

Do I dare venture into OC-land?

I would say that it should not damage most motherboards that are built well, such as the DFI and MSI boards. However, using a high FSB with stock voltage will raise your CPU temperature, and may still damage your CPU if your cooling isn't good enough. To minimize this risk, you need to push...

Is this a good A64 stepping?

I think pretty much any stepping would have a decent chance of reaching 2.3ghz.

    BIG problem..Can't boot from floppy

I think it's a BIOS problem too. Make sure you enabled the FDC controller, set the correct floppy disk type, enabled boot-up floppy seek, and set the correct boot order to have floppy disk in the first position.

Please Help - Garbled Bios Characters!!

I suspect that the memory on your video card has become defective.

    DVD burning problem

Try using the drive to read from a few commercially pressed CD or DVD first, make sure the CD-ROM drive is able to recognize the changes in the discs. I suspect there might be a firmware bug or something that is preventing the OS from recognizing the disc change. Updating the firmware might help.

    Is my mobo FUBAR?

I had the same exact problem with my MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard until I tried my PS/2 keyboard with the top PS/2 port (the one for the mouse) and had everything working. I immediately thought the bottom PS/2 port was fried, but then a week later I switched my keyboard back to the bottom PS/2...

    nVidia overclocking question

I would use ATITool to test for stability of overclocked video cards. It's like prime95 for CPUs in that it checks for inconsistancies in the image produced by the video cards.

    o/cing my 3000+

With a good board like the DFI Ultra-D, you have a couple of choices: FSB: 315~329 CPU Multi: X7 for derived CPU speed: 2205~2303 HTT Multipler: x3 for derived HTT speed: 945 ~ 987 Memory Divider: 133Mhz for derived Memory speed: 200~209 Memory Divider: 120Mhz for derived Memory speed...

Overclocking my 6800GT: is thermal throttling dropping my Core clock?

I had used power strip to overclock my 6800GT from stock speeds to 430Mhz for 3D, 400Mhz for 2D, and 1100Mhz for memory. I am using the XTREME G modded 76.10 drivers. In running rthdribl, it appeared to work fine, I did not get any crashes or noticable artifacts (they should be easily...

Sounds like luck of the draw?

I personally have found more success not always setting the memory to 100mhz (1:2 divider) but rather using a divider that makes my memory run as close as possible to 200Mhz without going over. Perhaps you guys could try that and see.

    Geil PC4000 won't go past 240 fsb

    1. What is your HTT multipler at? You might have to try a X3 multipler, even though X4 should work at that speed. 2. Which VDIMMs have you tried? With memory there is often one perfect VDIMM for each FSB speed. I would start from 2.5V and go up in .5V increments to check.
