Never did anything like advocate running w/o a swap file. Rather I was just putting up some definitive proof to contradict what was a blatantly false statement. Do I ever setup a clients system w/o a swap file or even say to someone on a forum that they should do it? I can't even remember it...

100% wrong. I can only guess that your trolling or just out of date but anyway here is some proof: My main system that runs with no swap. As of that screenshot it had running: Opera (my 2nd monitors browser), Firefox (my main browser), WMP streaming some Sportscenter from my Orb server...

So do I have the crappiest rig here?

For those wondering were exactly to find the HW acceleration option in WinXP you go to your Video Properties -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot. You will see this: Back when I had a system that I had a PCI ATI Rage Pro, oh it was old heh, it would choke hard if that slider was turned all the way...

It sounds like the GPU is indeed dying. As for why it only artifacts when you install the drivers my theory would be that when your running just the built in WinXP drivers the calls to the GPU via that API are so 'vanilla' as it were that does not either a) heat up the chip to the point where...
