ATi-AMD* A troubling relation?

The tradition of SB conflicting with VIA continues. I have installed several SB Audigys in 686B chipsets. Every single time so far, upon reboot of installing the drivers I get a BSOD in WindowsXP. Once I install it the second time, everything seems to be fine.

Returning 8500 ... What Now ?

If its a Trintron, you might want to play with the monitor settings. There are lots of em, if its has the adjustment, first adjust the landing if one corner is shimmering/discoloured (very common with Trinitrons), next play with convergence horizontal and vertical. Next do color, 75 for bias...

Ok, but just remember you are benching your processor/video card with Quake... Have you even tried RTCW yet? Come back and tell me your results then. And yes, Anand started at 1.5ghz (or equivalent AMD too) there is no point going any slower.

Non-DX8 apps won't run w/ final XP Radeon drivers

Besides, XP build 2600 is not the final release RTM build. The final OEM or RTM build will come with a basic set of Radeon drivers built in.

Is Cat 6 and 7 Officially out. I know you can buy it, but is teh standard set.

ATI stinks - ok ATI doesnt stink, just a little smelly, but my CD ROM drive did stink (Hi Val) haha

Well, the 3D gaming Radeon's drivers don't work that fast in Win2000 server, its true. But then again how many people have the recommended 256MB for the O/S and another 128MB to run games like Quake and Unreal? Win 98 and ME are perfectly fine. Personally I like the 2D clarity of ATi, ever...

Yes, that is exactly what happens when ripping a DVD. If you care about quality (and you are not illegally ripping a DVD) you should have an uncompressed master somewhere, possible still on "analog" 35mm film. A Divx coded directly from a 35mm will look much better than a Divx Mpeg-4...

APCI? does it really lower temps?

It helps, but only if the operating system uses ACPI. Windows Millenium uses ACPI, so it will shutdown everything sooner or later unless you specifically tell it not to. (It can even shut down the CPU fan )
