Hey guys, on my Windows 8.1 desktop, for storage I'm currently running two internal drives: a 256GB SSD as the C: drive (where Windows and most of my programs are located), and a 1TB HDD as the D drive (where some games are installed, in addition to the default pictures, videos, and music...
Okay, so I've now ensured that all of my components are not overheating and have returned the board to stock clocks for the Q6600 & RAM.
If I get another lockup I'll reinstall Windows, possibly to a new HDD (they're cheap, and then I can rule out C: hardware failure).
If this fixes the...
Thank you both for the help.
I visually inspected the board's capacitors with a flashlight and they all look normal from what I could see. I didn't pull the board out, but I definitely saw no bulging or discharge from any of them.
The HDD's not appearing in Windows occasionally (only...
Well now I feel really stupid... I decided to look in my computer and start it again after giving it a few hours to sit, and I discovered that one of my fans wasn't working! A SATA cable was interfering with the bottom drive bay fan (in the Antec P180 that I have, it sits in the center of the...
Hey guys,
I built my first PC a little over 3 years ago, and am finally running into my first troubles with it. First, here's what's in it now:
MB: DFI LanParty LT P35
CPU: Q6600 @ 3.6 ghz
RAM: 2x2 GB G.SKill DDR2
Video: XFX Radeon 5850 1GB
PSU: Seasonic S12 650W
Sound: HT Omega...
Yeah, they really are -- their current in-production top card is back to being the 9800GTX+.
I think it's simply a matter that they were losing money already on competing with the ATI 4xxx series, and with the price points that ATI is setting on the 5850 and 5870, they just aren't competitive...
From what I've read in this thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=235181, it seems that neither memory bandwidth nor core speed are exclusively the bottleneck on the 58xx so far.
I think it would be errant to suspect that AMD would have so badly miscalculated the...
The 5850 looks like an amazing card for the money, and the perfect replacement for my 4870x2 -- OC it to around 900mhz on the core to match the performance of the latter (and likely exceed it once the 58xx drivers mature), minus the CF quirks, and save $80-100/yr. in power savings from the use...
Exactly.
I have a DFI P35 board paired with a Q6600 at 3.6 ghz. Since the vast majority of games are GPU-limited at 1920x1200 and up, this is still an EXCELLENT setup to pair with a 58xx series GPU. The Q6600 G0 was an epic CPU by Intel... still going strong nearly 2 years post launch.
My current rig consists of:
Q6600 @ 3.6 Ghz (1.41v vcore)
DFI LT P35 Motherboard
4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 @ 1000Mhz
8800GT
3 SATA 7200rpm HDD's
IDE DVDRW Drive
All powered by a Seasonic S12 650w PSU.
I'm strongly considering upgrading to a 4870x2, would my 1.5 yr old S12 be able to handle it...
I just read that article as well. In those situations though it would seem that you're not going to be in a good position, performance-wise, if you have to start accessing the system RAM -- and theoretically cards with more vRAM won't be as susceptible to those issues -- lowering the resolution...
SLI 9600GT's is what I'd do if I bought an SLI motherboard -- they scale exceptionally well and are much cheaper than any other solution of comparable performance. Unfortunately, the SLI motherboards themselves seem overpriced, less stable, and have much hotter NB's than the P35's.
