Regarding the iSCSI question it is definitely:

Regarding Exam A, Q62. Is it really the case that storage migration cannot be performed to a local disk? I am tempted to choose quick migration to host 1 (answer D). Any one?

Yes, only system state cannot be backed up online.
If compressed folders are recovered from Windows Online Backup (no matter which target folder), they retain their attributes if you tick "Create copies so that you have both versions"
If you choose "do not recover the items that already exist on the recovery destination" the recovered folders "compressed" attribute gets lost.

@John, I agree on your comments about the iSCSI question. I also think that the iSCSI Initiator on the client (server 1) should be configured. However, reading this page I learned that on the exam the actual target (on server 2) is also down, so this creates an extra twist to this. I will do the exam tomorrow and my answer will depend on the info I get from the question itself.

On Exam B, I have doubts about the iscsi question. I think the answer should be:
1- On Server2, add an iSCSI initiator ID to target1.
2- On Server1, configure iSCSI initiator to connect to target1.

According zozo however, 2- should be done on Server1. That is incorrect. iSCSI initiator creates the link between the client (in this case Server1) to the SAN provider (in this case Server2). It should be run on the client. Or am I missing sometihng?

The question was same but answers was different.

there's one question about what type of drives would you take, and the answer wasn't in the choices. Only one I noticed. Storage pool of disk 2 and 3 was the dump answer, yet it wasn't on the test. The other answers were raid, or spanned drives. Not sure of the answer.

@ Michi your are reading question wrong go over it again, two of the servers ARE running 32 bit but only one is actually x86.

Also it seems the the iSCSI drag and drop is wrong or maybe I am crazy, but after you setup the Target1 up on server2 using Microsoft ISCSI Initiator software you then need to on server1 to connect to the target1.. Correct me if I am wrong.

I just finished doing this in a lab just to make sure I am not losing my mind, since I have done this procedure at work before.

Seems every exam question has come from the "Exam Tips" and "Notes" in the Ebook, "Exam Ref 70-417" by JC Mackin, published by Microsoft Press, ISBN: 978-0-7356-7304-5. You can download it directly from Microsoft. I was going to buy
the paperback from Amazon, but the price is much less in Ebook format. The correct answers (according to Agnostracized) are directly from the "Exam Tips"
--- it's almost as if the same person (JC Mackin) who wrote the Ebook also wrote the exam questions (which would not surprise me). As far as I can tell, the answers by "Agnostracized" are 100% accurate, according to the Ebook, which happens to be published by Microsoft Press. Just thought you might want to know....Now to complete my exam prep, I download this sample by Zozo, then take the exam in a couple weeks. Wish me luck!!!

Doing 70-417 you should already know all the questions from C. I looked at C because it is good to get a refresh from time to time :)

Just a few minutes ago I did the exam. Passed with 925/925/933. It is very very valid. Something is still wrong, but it is enough to pass. Some minor changes in the answers, but with knowledge of that what you are doing it shouldn't be a problem for you.

As GC from HongKong already said, there is a new/changed question about which tool to view the AD password Setting object.

You can disconnect from an iSCSI target and the iSCSI initiators console would report "not connected"

Ok, lets hash this out. Server 2 is the iSCSI TARGET, Server 1 is the iSCSI INITIATOR. server 1 needs to connect to server 2 so that server 2's vhd can be managed as a volume on Server 1.

The volume needs to be created on Server 1, no doubt. The iSCSI Initiator connects to the iSCSI Target, the targets disk(s) show up in Computer Mgmt on the initiator. ONly the initiator can create volumes (through Comp.Mgmt). If you created the volumes on Server 2, Server 2 would OWN the disks and they are NOT AVAILABLE via iSCSI to the Initiator. So the answer "On Server 1, create a new volume from Server Manager", would be in slot 3.

"On Server 2, you do need to add the isci initiator ID to target 1" (which can be manually entered or pulled from cache). That answer would be in slot 1.

For slot 2, it is the responsibility of the administrator on the server hosting the iSCSI Initiator service "(Server 1) to configure the iSCSI Initator to connect to Target1".

about the question, if we're talking about A22 (DAC), i'll keep my answer :

if you remove the permissions for the IT group, they won't have any access anymore to the folder, not even read access (i was 99% sure and i tested it as i wrote in the file, so i'm 100% sure)

if you assign the Modify permission to the Authenticated Users group, this will be "reduced" by the Control Access Policy which only allows IT group access.

moreover the links i joined to the vce explains the same procedure.

Still valid in nigeria scored over 920. Thanks Zozo for your great insight. But for the question about the I T read permissions . I chose to remove their permission on the folder and my score was super high in that section. Please investigate. Thanks again.

This exam is an upgrade from MCSA 2008 to MCSA 2012.
People who are not MCSA 2008 have to pass 3 exams : 70-410, 70-411 and 70-412 to get the MCSA 2012.
People who are already MCSA 2008 can upgrade their MCSA to MCSA 2012 passing the 70-417.
And this 70-417 exam is composed of three independant sub exams (the 3 "official sections" in the initial explanations of the vce) of 20 to 21 questions each.
Your final score to the exam is the worst score you get to one of the 3 sub exams.
For example : if you get 850/900/950 => your final score is 850

So that I understand, I see sections 410, 411, and 412 in the initial explanation when opening this file. Is this the actual test material for Microsoft 70-417 or for 70-410, 411, and 412? Please advise.

I just remember one drag and drop question about the Win 2k8 + 32 or 64 bit.

In this dump, we got in question 96

W 2k8 with x32
W 2k8 with x64
W 2k8 with x64

In my session, it was

W 2k8 with x32
W 2k8 with x32
W 2k8 with x64

So be carefull of the answer dropped, clearly the key to answer is to see the x32/x64

In the answer options, there is no option "The Add-WindowsFeature cmdlet", instead it has been changed to "ocsetup.exe". I guess this is the correct answer.

Exam B, Q11
The questions tweaked a bit but it should be fairly easy to answer.

i put them back just to have more questions for training, but for sure, you won't find them in the exam!

and indeed, yes, i confirm (and many people too) i didn't get any question from exam C in my exam.

The fact, that you didn't have it in your exam, doesn't mean, that it isn't in the exam's question pool.

Sometimes its important to remove an RODC from your forest or domain.
However, its important that you follow a simple rule whilst removing RODC's. What is this rule?

answer A = "All RODC's must be detached before removing a final writable domain controller"
=> that means that if you detach the last RWDC, all RODCs must be removed fist.
So to me it's not a rule about "removing an RODC" but about "removing a RWDC"..

But the answer is up anyone's understanding..

To me, no particular rule , but i'm not expert..

The only rule i know about removing an RODC is :
when its been stolen or its security is compromised, we have to reset all the passwords that were saved in it, which is not neither the question, nor one of the answers.

Anyway, this question is not an exam one, so who knows who wrote it and if it's even meaningful..

I disagree with your answer to Exam C Q11. The answer should be A.
What the question is really saying is - if your last DC in a domain/forest is an RODC, then you're screwed. Always make sure you have a RWDC as your last DC.

u're definitely right about Q16.

i confirm that :

- a RID Master is required when promoting a new DC, to provide the new DC an "account-identifier pool" so he can create accounts in AD. => that's our case here

- the Domain Naming Master is required when creating a new domain, to register the new domain to the Partitions container.

I rectify this on my file. I'll post a new one in a few days, waiting for other possible rectifications.

Well i've been hesitating a loooong time on this one and i did not find any link who says explicitly : "you can't promote a DC if RID is offline".

But i found a link which "almost" says that about domain naming master..

So i agree with you, this answer was not 100% sure and i still have doubts about it..

I think in this case, best thing to do is testing.. and u've just definitely motivated me to do it!

Strongly disagreed with answer on question 16. We Surely need a RID role server in corp.contoso.com to get RIDs. but we dont need a DN role when adding an additional domain controller. We need DN master only when addind additioal domains in forest. Also i passed exam - got 1000 on section with this question. so RID in corp.contoso.com is necessary server in MS opinion.

Based on Examer's exam, i :

* Added/modified answers/explanations/screenshots/links (the screenshots make the size of the file)
* Added the missing exhibits (except for B13 which i did not find on the internet)
* Added back, in exam C, the 37 removed questions (i prefer working on the entire pool, even if i know they came out 2 weeks before the exam was released, it can be useful for training.. but up to you to remove them again using Exam Designer)
* Added sections. First wanted to class by 410, 411, 412 but too many themes can be found in 2 or more exams so i forgave it, and just tried to categorize by themes..

Thanks to Examer, and all that participate(d) to this vce, including previous persons who worked on it and corrected it, and every websites or books that are mentioned in it.

And thanks to my teacher Farrokh too for his precious help on several questions !
