Barely works in my area. I have to get to a more urban area to have T-Mobile. My bro has it and likes it. Definitely an option if I leave my little dead zone ridden area lol
For me T-Mobile has undoubtedly slowed. Admittedly I’m still rocking a 4G phone however I suspect their new shit head CEO wants revenue thus they pulled 4G spectrum to convert to 5G spectrum too aggressively.

I upgraded to a 5g phone more than 7 or 8 years ago. Phones are not that expensive and can be bought used/refurbished etc etc. I mean at this point it's kind of within their right to start making people adopt the newer technologies so they don't have to upkeep the older stuff.

Time to upgrade. Yes, carriers will shift spectrum to where their traffic volumes are. Plus 5g has features that make it much more efficient for carriers to manage spectrum and capacity.

New CEO is still a Shit Head.
I am staying where I am at until I can get a 5G refurb iPhone for $200.
I spent far too much time in wireless to be excited about a device.
Also yes 4G is on its way out and yes spectrum gets moved. Point being is we are not that far into 5G territory, T-Mobile was still selling 4G phones last summer. I should get faster speeds than what I currently do, sometimes I am under 200k.

You should get a Samsung A30 series phone.

For $300.. you get 4 years of updates and a brand new battery that should last 5 years vs what a $200 iphone would have given you (2 or so years).

5 years of a new battery is a smarter buy!

I can replace batteries. I just don’t like android.

I thought the batteries were unchangeable now in iphones since they go through so much pain to make swapping out parts.

How'd you get around their monopoly?
You can still do it, you need a heated pad to loosen the silicone glue stuff. Maybe that’s changed however I suspect it hasn’t, if not many staples will do new batteries cheap.
Nothing against android, I just don’t like it.

Edit: I realize I can get iPhone 12 minis for around $200. I want to go with a 13, this part I am not sure of I *think* the 12 is not a real 5G device, I *think* it only works on one band and the other bands are basically 4G+ speeds. I could be wrong about this.

Wasn't knocking you for that. Personal taste.. but the battery was a big deal for me.

I used a 4s and then started with android.

My personal gripe with apple started when they came out with ios 7 which changed the dial pad to white. I'm really sensitive to bright lights and prefer dark mode.. which android offered first.

Stuck with em ever since and have been happier personally.

If they hadn't changed this.. I'd probably still be back there.

Nah that’s cool, my main thing with android is I just don’t like how you navigate stuff in it and manufactures add short cuts that frankly suck. I also find the way it serves you ads creepy. Not that iOS doesn’t serve ads, the ads it does serve are less creepy.

Hmm which ads are you referring to?

I don't have a ton of games or unnecessary apps on my phone so I don't get ads except what Anandtech and other forums give me which appears at the bottom usually.

Just ads from search in general. Hard to explain they feel like the follow you too much.

Either I'm doing something right in settings or just not downloading too much garbage apps but I really don't get too many ads in searches. It's just a normal google search.

The most annoying ad thing now is youtube that forces me to watch ads or it blocks the video.

The example I use is dated however I have noticed it to a lesser extent in chrome. When I was working in wireless I won some mid range HTC phone, it was small and cute, had a nice bright and colorful screen for what they were at the time. I only used it for work email, never logged into my personal email or google account. I created a google account simply to use the phone. One day while listening to Howard Stern he was talking about a squatty potty and I just couldn’t imagine what it was. I knew it was a real product not some porn thing so I checked out the website with the HTC, fine it was basically an oval shaped foot stool to put around the toilet, okay I got it. That’s all I did.
Later that day and thru the next day I get bombarded with ads and they were all low brow type ads such as “squatty potty is 35% off today only! Or Still Shopping for a Squatty Potty click here”. Sort of creepy for the time.
On the third day I synch it to my home WiFi and then I start seeing squatty potty ads on my personal computer which has never logged into my work email or anything else company related except it held a contact backup of my blackberry. Then I start to get junk emails about squatty potties and finally my blackberry browser which I barely used started getting squatty potty ads.
Admitted maybe I clicked on an email accidentally or something else but that’s creepy stuff. The ad was following me everywhere from one search.
I am sure ad tracking behaves better today, however I don’t see ads jumping from my mobile devices to my desktop since I keep the user ids separate. The was google wants everything linked is easy to screw up. Also as mentioned I just don’t like the look & feel of android.

I know overseas that some smartphones are super cheap (and affordable) because they get their money from companies and they spam the user with ads. And there's no way to delete them from their operating system.

I didn't know HTC did that but I know phones in other countries, especially Asia and India are subsidized for the end user in that way. Sounds like what you encountered.

That said I never had that happen with a USA bought Samsung and that totally doesn't sound like a US market phone.

I'm sure I'm not the only android user on this forum.. so if anyone else has encountered it happening recently.. please post your phone make and model.

I suspect though it'll be few and far between but in the end it's all personal preference and I have no problems with you sticking with Apple. Just that ad thing isn't a normal experience on Android.

Not sure what any of this has to do with the thread topic.

I'm still on LTE at best using a Motorola Stylus on TracFone. Once the final assimilation into the VZW collective this fall, I may have to change since I just don't get a sufficient VZW signal out here. 5G is non-existent so TM and AT&T may not help either.

I don't see the proposed policy change as making a difference.

Net neutrality isn’t about physical delivery of services afaik

Exactly, which means all of the talk of delivery and service availability is not on topic for the thread.

It’s along the same lines, this dead thread was revived recently, it’s not like it makes difference to it lol.

What’s funnier is you actually discussed this not-on-topic topic before saying the topic doesn’t belong here lol

Android and ads. I deleted my post because I didn't realized what forum I was in.
