"traditional Republican"...is that the fabled "moderate Conservative" we hear so much about?

We should organize a combination hunt for: the snipes that those camp counselors told us to go find, unicorns, and moderate Conservatives.

To be fair, there are a lot of moderate Conservatives, they are now called "Democrats".

Expecting GOP and its supporters to ever admit they were wrong, that's a good one. About Climate Change or anything else. Karl Rove didn't invent their philosophy but he perfected it. Blame the other guy, lie, make it loud, keep saying it no matter how blatantly the facts say otherwise. No doubt it will somehow be the fault of Biden, EVs, solar power and gay people when climate change ultimately wrecks the world my kids are inheriting.

"It's all God's Will" is the ultimate fallback. "Things wouldn't have gotten so shitty if we'd all listened to God. Never mind that people like me fought tooth and nail against anything that might have prevented this. Who am I to go against God's Will?"

Going to be something when Trump kicks out millions of laborers and Florida's luck runs out and gets shellacked with 2-3 major hurricanes in a year and everybody down there is living in tents for years because there are no roofers.

You touch on something very important here perhaps. If nothing can happen except by God’s will then your assumption that you went against his will can’t possibly be true. Everything that Biden does is God’s will. Imagine all those evil Christians criticizing Biden for doing God’s will. Only the Devil could make them say that.

True belief isn’t true belief if one does not accept life as it happens without complaint. Where are the real Christians?

The place where God is most dead is in religious communities filled with the arrogance to imagine that their own selfish desires are the Will of God.

We’ve already been seeing some pretty wild severe weather this May and none of it has been tropical.

If hurricanes form, (and right now there’s a bunch of Saharan dust impeding formation off the coast of Africa), then they are going to have a lot of energy to play with. Not great for the gulf coast or eastern seaboard.

Speaking of which do you have a battery to go with your solar and generator now too? Still reading about people with power out from that storm.

Just a generator right now. Been looking at solar / battery but we decided to punt until we have to re-roof. Our current roof probably has another 5-6 years before we have to replace it.

I will say the generator purchase has been great. Murphys law in action. Spent $$$$$ and have used it for maybe 3 hours. Even last weeks storm missed us by 10 miles.

Although thinking about it, we bought it to prevent us from losing power and we’ve basically not lost power. So does it matter whether it’s because the generator kicks in or because Murphys Law keeps us from losing power?

I moved into my house in 2009. For the first two years we lost power constantly and because it is basically a dead end neighborhood we were always the last in our town to get power back on. After the October blizzard in 2011 where we were without power for 8 days, I bought a generator. We haven't lost power for more than 30 minutes since. I have never had to use my generator. I have to start it up twice a year to keep mold out of the carburetor.

We had bought a small generator after Hurricane Ike knocked out the power for 3 days (along with our roof). I then had to do that maintenance several times a year to keep it running.

Used it for several days during winter storm Uri back in 21 and spent a good 3 hours in the cold replacing the carburetor and flushing the oil after it froze up and leaked gas into the cyclinder. Also had to drive around and wait in line for an hour at one of the few working gas stations to get more gas. Since I didn’t expect to be without power that long I only had 10 gallons on hand.

After that we decided to get a whole home Generac that tests itself once a week and calls for help if fails its checks. It can even run our ACs and it’s plumbed to natural gas so no more storing 50 gallons of gasoline when we think we might have to use it.

Ayup, almost guaranteed that each hurricane is going to ramp to a high cat4/cat5.

I liken it to dropping a steak on a screaming cast iron, there's just so much energy to dump into those hurricanes and they don't extract enough heat to make a difference by the time the next one rolls up.

We need to start a pool on date and landfall for the first Cat 5 storm for the season.

I've got an Outer Banks vacation planned so I have the inside scoop.

Something I read about today as my new 'hell scape to watch for'
Hypercane!

Requires temps of 122F, we've seen 104 in FL. 18F delta, I think we can make that happen if we try hard enough.

Highlights:
500-600mph
Self-reinforcing, to the point of lasting weeks (at least)
Storm system roughly the size of the US
Much taller than typical hurricanes, reaching high enough to damage the ozone
If one gets made, the conditions will be ripe for multiple to spawn.

Strap in everyone!

I hope coastal areas have been raking their beaches to prevent flooding.
I have family that lived on Hilton Head Island, a popular beach there within a gated community basically washed away during the big hurricane that face rolled them a few years back, stole a good 20'x5mi of sand. They trucked in replacement sand, which has been getting continually eroded since then.

It's basically the South Park AIDS episode form of problem resolution. Add money until the problem goes away or you die.
