Oh I agree.

I still advocate for banning propelled armaments everywhere and get back to sword and board, hammers, spear-tossing, and maybe as advanced as crossbows for all warfare.

Let's see how quickly the modern human can stomach this, the way information works today, and how quickly (if at all) war becomes an anachronistic term.
India and China did it and I didn't notice any drop in the likelihood of war there.

Western Civ might lose its shit, but most other people are slaves to a master. Whose lives are forfeit at the whim of one asshole. Like Russians marching to the front, the gun pointed to the back of their head from their own people is what keeps them in line. Our people might be soft and comfy, but the world at large is not. Russians ARE a modern human, it's just that they have no capacity to say no. They have no freedom. Their situation is not unique in the world.

I feel for them. I wish they could say no. I wish they could choose to live.
But so long as Putin wants people to die, it is our duty to make it happen to them... instead of to us.

I am not entirely sure we have choice either. For society to work, choice always has to be limited.

Is the social contract kept?

Much is written about the failures of our social contract these days. But to be truthful, those who are not willing to recognize the failures are incapable of fixing theirs. Our ability to see our own failure is our ability to heal.

And there is nothing soft or comfy about our people. We have fought war for decades now. Our soldiers are known to be second to none. Even when we are outnumbered and outgunned, our adversaries will resort to harassment rather then attempting to engage in conflict.

Did Putin 'blink'? He just gave a new definition of denazification, which is the whole point of the Special Military Operation... "a legal ban on nazi propaganda in Ukraine.”

Ofcause it could just be more misdirection to delay or even remove Western support for Ukraine, but his new Defense Minister with his economics background might have given him some cold hard facts.

No, he's been making that up as he goes along. The other conditions he's demanding are also mostly non-starters for Ukraine anyway. Ukraine is never going to agree to major arms restrictions for one thing, if anything they're gonna build the bomb.

Putin should do as any micromanaging general would wish they could: Be the hero and shining example of what a real man of courage and willpower will do by leading every assault on the AFU at the front of the charge, waving his sword in the air, urging his troops to follow him into battle through those minefields amid showers of incoming drone, Bushmaster, gatling, cluster and 155 HE rounds that greets him the moment his tank starts covering ground.

I mean if his troops can't get the job done as he directed them, What's a guy to do but get the job done himself, right? C'mon Putie, walk the walk for a change.

Lol.

The only real options here, absent some major shift in Russian conditions, are to let Ukraine run out of bullets or let Russia run out of Russians. I vote door #2.

Last we checked, Russia's definition of Nazi is anyone and anything that does not bow to Russia.
So... telling us that Ukraine must become Belarus isn't exactly a step back from their initial goals.
The wording may be weak, but the Orcs are willing to suffer a little PR humiliation if it achieves a ceasefire today - to pave the way for total victory later.

In the 2000s, "America Alone" was a Conservative siren call for the dangers facing Europe. The gist of it was we needed our allies.
In the 2020s, "America Alone" is just another word for "America First". Republican's top agenda for foreign policy. To screw over allies and to reward enemies.
These people are traitors.

I think it will eventually come out that multiple republicans are being either paid or blackmailed by Russia.

Disgusting isn't it? They are the new Bund, just replace 30s Germany with modern day Russia.

Anything led by that special needs horse MTG is bound for failure, thankfully, but I really resent the damage these people seem to delight in doing to our institutions and relationships overseas.

I'm going Fed Ex that bitch several bales of alfalfa now.

ISW assessment from yesterday mentions...

"Select Russian military commentators continue to complain about superior Ukrainian drone and electronic warfare (EW) capabilities on the battlefield, continuing to highlight the rapid and constant tactical and technological innovation cycles that are shaping the battlespace in Ukraine."

"A Russian milblogger who formerly served as a "Storm-Z" unit instructor posted a list of complaints on June 4 detailing the challenges that Russian forces face in repelling Ukrainian drones and claimed that effective and pervasive Ukrainian drone use is now the "leading factor" in Ukraine's ability to repel Russian offensive actions.[1] The milblogger made six points about the Russian-Ukrainian drone disparity, claiming first and foremost that Ukrainian troops have a large numerical advantage in first person view (FPV) drones and FPV drone operators. The milblogger claimed that Ukrainian assault groups have a 3-4:1 FPV drone advantage over Russian assault units, while Ukrainian mechanized groups have a 6-10:1 FPV drone advantage over comparable Russian units. The milblogger noted that Ukraine also has specialized and centralized drone units within existing Ukrainian ground units, which allows Ukrainian forces to better integrate reconnaissance and attack drone capabilities into basic tactical maneuvers. Russian forces, by contrast, lack the centralized and organized drone-unit system and adequate EW and electronic reconnaissance (ER) capabilities to counter Ukrainian drones.[2] Another milblogger, whose initial post from May 31 spurred the former Storm-Z instructor to weigh in on the issue, noted that specialized Ukrainian drone units have heavily targeted and destroyed unprotected Russian armored equipment in the Avdiivka direction, inhibiting Russian offensive prospects in the area.[3] The milblogger emphasized that the provision of FPV drones and required EW and ER systems to Russian forces is done on an ad hoc volunteer basis, as there is no centralized supply mechanism from the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD). These remarks on Russia's need to centralize its drone warfare capabilities echo recent calls made by a cadre of Russian commentators, including former Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) head Dmitry Rogozin.[4] As Ukrainian forces adapt and better integrate new technologies into their force, Russian forces will likely feel pressured to do the same in order to retain technological and tactical parity on the battlefield. This offense-defense and capability scaling race is central to the development of combat means in a contemporary war."

So Russians have far fewer drones and aren't using them as well as the AFU is what it comes down to. There is no Russian equivalent to the Magyar Birds. Ukrainian intel superiority continues to make the Russians bleed profusely at every turn, and now it's happening on both sides of the border. Sounds good to me.

The real problem is that Putin continues to execute the intellect; leaving fewer and fewer people capable of developing more advance techniques; then Putin turns around and send defenseless farmers and blue collar workers in general into battle to be slaughtered destroying the bulk of his work force. I mean really what do you expect ?
