Question My HDD spins but is not Detected

Whenever i plug my HDD into the case it spins (i'm 100% sure it spins beacuse it gets hot)
but when i open the windows (11) it does not show up
nor in the bios
and it's not shown up in the disk management
can anyone help me with solving this
i'd be very thankful
(My Motherboard is b450 aorus elite v2 BTW)

hint: it's not an external Hard Drive but an ordinary HDD

What HDD is this? It is possible that either it is dead if it is older...or, you could try a different SATA port on the motherboard or a different SATA cable.

What HDD connection type? HDD and enclosure details?

Unlikely you're using eSATA but some MB BIOS that I have require you to enable eSATA which is off by default.

If USB I'd test it with a different (if possible non-USB 3.0) port, different HDD housing and cable and/or a different HDD because the most likely causes are a faulty HDD or a faulty enclosure, port or cable.

Did you plug in both the sata power and sata data cables?

This sounds like potential head damage.
If the read head can't read the sector header area (typically called "ID"), then it just won't work. It'll try everytime it is powered on, and if it fails the firmware will park the head and basically disable the drive.
Check the smart log if you can, it might still be read with a bootable diagnostic cd/image.

i tried different SATA ports ,but still it doesn't work
also, i tried 3 different Hard Drives so, it is highly unlikely that they are dead i think the problem is with the system itself
and one of those 3 i'm 100% sure it works
The one I'm mostly trying to run is Seagate Barracuda 250GB

Do you have any USB sticks plugged in when you try to boot? If you do, remove them and then boot into your BIOS, and see if you see the drive. If you do boot and see if Windows sees it .

Unless you are running into the port sharing population limits I linked to above (with an M.2 SSD), that sounds like you are not using the data cable? There should be TWO cables to each HDD, power and data. Or controllers/ports are disabled in BIOS! Would be weird for the whole SATA subsystem to be non-op.

Thank you very much ,that is what the problem was exactly
i was connecting the SATA cable in one of the 2 disabled ports(because of the M.2),
And it now works properly.

That was probably so frustrating! I wish I could say I have not overlooked something very simple myself a time or three resulting in HOURS wasted!
