Unless it’s Joe Biden, there isn’t anyone else that can set the terms of testimony. It’s standard to interview in private before doing a public hearing. And I think he just wanted to get it over with.Why didn't Hunter hold out until he had a public hearing?

Back in Jan or December the committee scheduled Hunter Biden for a private hearing. In advance he repeatedly refused to come unless it was public. The GOP refused to have it public. On the day of the scheduled private hearing Hunter showed up on the steps of the Capitol and gave an extensive press conference covering much of what he expected to testify about. He then went to the room the committee was in while they were debating to find him in contempt for failure to appear, said I'm here and ready immediately if it is public. No, it would just mean we need the DoJ to similarly prosecute this same gun law against every single one of the other 25,000,000 Americans (and that's based on a self-reported drug use rate, very low-range estimate) that have regularly used illegal drugs while in possession of a firearm...Sooo..
