She took her leave at 10 this morning, she was focused and resolute to the end. My physician neice was there to help and it was calm and peaceful. We are gathered at my middle sisters now.
She was badass till the end. She wanted her cocktail mixed with some aged scotch whiskey.

Fucking incredible. Condolences - hopefully you all are or will soon be at peace with everything.

Sorry for your loss once again.... I was thinking about you guys this morning.

Much as it hurts to lose a loved one, this part still put a smile on my face!

Don't be sad because it's over.... be glad because it happened!

She set the bar pretty high.
I feel really disconnected from this. Maybe I was processing this stuff after all, because I am in a pretty good place. It has been almost a year to the day since the diagnosis.
Any other time I would be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

It's been a week now. I have been sleeping poorly and after I got up and fed the crazed chihuahua at 4 am, I went back to bed and slept in till after 9. it was a cumulative deficit.
Our roommate came home from a particularly heartbreaking case today. The really elderly dog was at the end of life, and the lady owner had hoped the dog would outlast her husband who had Alzheimer's.
It did not work out that way. He sat there unresponsive and appearing to not pay attention, but when that moment came and the veterinarian told the lady that the dog was gone, her husband mouthed a silent scream and was visibly upset. It was truly heartbreaking. It tears me up to type it out.
I have been on that edge all day anyway, but that was real and some tough stuff. He has a hard job, really hard sometimes.

your roomie is a helluva nice guy. I can only imagine how this sort of thing gets to him. That's one of the reasons we didn't drive over and have him put our two little rat dogs down in 2021. (along with not thinking we'd be able to make the 100+ mile drive back home)
I wish I could say, "Hang in there...it gets better," but as we both know, it doesn't...it gets EASIER with time...but the hurt never goes away.

I'm sorry. Glad she was able to do it in her way and with her family gathered around.

Now, go celebrate her life!

This. So much this.

May she rest in peace knowing how much she was loved.

bumping this back up as it relates to another family friend with a couple of glioblastomas, one in the same area as my sister's, and another down in the motor area and totally inoperable. He took the death with dignity route as well. It was getting terrifying, he was losing the ability to breathe.
One of my wife's besties also passed two weeks ago, and she did not get ready to do that. She had some regrets about that.
If you or a loved one gets backed into this corner, do the homework early if you want to take control. It takes about a month to get through the required doctor consults and waiting period.

SK,

Sorry to hear you have had so much death in your life lately. It sucks. Like you said though, this is a good reminder to get your affairs in order. My FIL passed in January and we helped my MIL with her bank accounts. Even though they had a trust and her name was on the trust, some places were simple to deal with and others were a complete nightmare (Wells Fargo)

I'm fine fellas. I want to remind people to take care of business. There are no guarantees for tomorrow.
Try to not leave a total shit show for your respective families, Etc.
My neighbor Pete's brother left one of those complete nightmares, he purchased houses for kids, did not clean up titles, had a shit ton of vehicles. Pete ran back to Ohio repeatedly to try and clean it up as executor. It all ended badly and he is now forever the bad guy for his brother's children.
Clean up your stuff and sleep well.
Wife's bestie did not do too bad, but she was a retired legal secretary and could have done even better.

Sorry to hear that and glad you're doing ok. It's a good reminder. My wife recently lost a relative and the whole legal/asset process has been smooth because it was all laid out ahead of time. Straightforward trust, last wishes etc
