Well gee whiz, look who else talks about mandatory service and likely is t thinking at all about what it would really mean.
Devil's in the details. In theory, I'd be fine with everyone taking the ASVAB as an indicator of "if you want to go to the military, here's where you'd land". Absolutely no forced enlistment though.

As an addition, if we are going to do mandatory ASVAB (regardless of enlistment), then there should also be mandatory voter registration. Because if we're going to require kids be given information about enlisting, we also need to give them the opportunity to vote for who's sending them into harm's way.
(I fully expect a voter registration amendment would be DOA for conservatives)

This writer thinks he might be rat shit crazy:

Trump always returns to his folly. And his Republican acolytes always return to him | Richard Wolffe | The Guardian

Anyone can rat, as Winston Churchill once supposedly said. But it takes a certain amount of ingenuity to re-rat.

Say what you like about Donald Trump, but there’s no shortage of rodent-like ingenuity around his dealings with the sewer life that populates today’s Republican party.

On Thursday, the convicted felon who now leads the party of law and order paid a very special visit to his closest friends on Capitol Hill.

So the 1% chance Trump actually wins, which I sadly know is a possibility. What will his clan members say when groceries stay the same price and gas doesn't magically drop 50%? These fools really believe all it'll take is him back in office for prices to fall to nothing overnight.

Virtually every Trump economic policy that comes out of his side will make inflation somewhat worse or like Turkey worse.

People who right now think we have 50% annual inflation are going to have a fantastic time. Oh well Trump's going to own me personally by eliminating the income tax lol.

Nothing; he will tell them they were 10x higher before he was elected and they will believe him. Even if the actual prices doubled they will still cheer him because if he hadn't been elected it would be worse (according to him). You have to remember his followers are morons and will believe any bullshit he feed them.

As I've mentioned previously, 99% of the time when they're pressed for details what you get back is loud pissed off defensive vitriol, worn out verbatim talking points from FOX, vague offensive tropes, lies, hyperbole, hypocritical double speak and the winnah from them is tossing back accusations that they were originally accused of like "No, the Biden's are the crime family and it's Biden and the Democrats that are liars who steal elections" . IOW, no facts, no truths, no sense just BS and that's how they think they're going to get Trump back in the Oval Office.

In my experience it’s something crazy they believe. Then when you disprove crazy thing #1 it’s off to crazy thing #2 with no discussion of how they came to believe crazy thing #1 and no reflection on if they should avoid those sources in the future or ponder if they have been told anything else crazy.

Holding someone down to a single topic and exploring it is usually the hard part because once people realize they are losing or look dumb they get mad and try to move away.

1% chance Trump wins? I hope not everyone is as overconfident. Last time I saw that kind of confidence was in 2016. I knew a number of people that were 1) pissed off because their hero Bernie got "shafted" and 2) said that they were not voting anyway because Donald "the least qualified candidate in history" Trump was a joke and wouldn't win, so they'd just take their Bernie ball and stay home. Fucking wankers.

It's anybody's ballgame.

And don't get me wrong, if Biden stomps Trump nobody will be as relieved as I will be.

The former Lunatic in Chief shits all over Fathers Day:

"HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE RADICAL LEFT DEGENERATES THAT ARE RAPIDLY BRINGING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INTO THIRD WORLD NATION STATUS WITH THEIR MANY ATTEMPTS AT TRYING TO INFLUENCE OUR SACRED COURT SYSTEM INTO BREAKING TO THEIR VERY SICK AND DANGEROUS WILL.

“WE NEED STRENGTH AND LOYALTY TO OUR COUNTRY, AND ITS WONDERFUL CONSTITUTION"

Just in case some of us forgot, the "wonderful constitution" to which he referred to is the very one he called to be flushed down the shitter so he could remain in office.

The lack of laughable grammar/typos makes me believe these screeds have been assigned to some lackey with instructions to automate shitposts for every American holiday.

The new Republican party bureaucratic, subcontracted hate.

I wonder what Trump thinks he gets out of these "insult the holiday" posts he makes. I mean the first couple or so were shocking and gave him some kind of rebel cred with his like-minded followers, but now its fucking boring and predictable. Obviously, his hard-core followers eat this shit up, they would eat up anything he spewed. I guess when some people don’t have a crazy uncle spouting hate and insane nonsense on the holidays, it’s comforting to them to have somebody willing to take that role.

I suppose it becomes a family tradition to Trumpers to curl up with the family up by the fire with a cup of eggnog and a brightly lit Christmas tree while silent night is playing on the radio, to read the annual Toilet Seat Rantings of this lunatic former President.

Serial underage pervert Donald Trump tries to kiss a young woman on the lips, who wants no part of it.

I hope she made it to the bathroom before throwing up. I know anyone at Turning Point USA is master of Doublethink, not to mention “it can’t happen to me” but…Just look into what he has done at Miss Teen USA pageants.

I'll quote the first part of the Access Hollywood tape...

I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

This serial predator is neck and neck with a normal person in the polls

The number of people I know who hated Trump, knew he was incompetent, knew he'd screw everything up, but still didn't vote for Hillary because "Trump has no chance and I don't want to vote for her" is infuriating. I wish Trump hadn't been telling yet another lie when he said in 2020 that if he lost you'd never hear from him again.

Trump simply does not understand how tariffs work. I'm sure, after all this time he’s surely had it explained to him many times over?!. Or He knows his constituency is so stupid that they don’t understand how tariffs work. I'm going with the latter. Trump acts as if tariffs are paid by the country they are levied against, and are therefore an inexhaustible supply of money that doesn’t hurt anyone in the US, whereas they are actually higher costs for imported goods ultimately paid for by US citizens or corporations.

Just for the hell of it I decided to run the numbers to see what size tariffs would be required to replace income tax. Income tax brings in $2.6 Trillion, and there were $3.2 trillion in imports. So in order to replace it you would need tariffs of over 80%.

Now we can bring in the Laffer curve which is mostly irrelevant in terms of our current tax rates, but which become dominant when we start talking about tariffs in this range. Since you nearly double the price of imports, the number of imports sold will drop by significantly more than half. So there really is no way to make up the revenue with tariffs.

Finally, if he tried the result would be other countries announcing obscene tarriffs on your goods in retaliation, and suddenly the US would find itself completely economically isolated. Which is just the sort of thing that we try to do to other countries that hate us (e.g. Russia, Iran, North Korea).

Trumps plan would basically be his self-imposing worldwide sanctions on the US.

What a fucking Dope!

Yep - worldwide sanctions while simultaneously importing huge amounts of inflation and/or shortages, while shifting the tax burden from the rich to the working class.

It's one of the worst economic ideas ever floated by a candidate. Pure stupidity.

Kellyann Conway is claiming that 8000 people showed up at a black church to see Trump speak and doesn’t say anything about most of them being white.

“You got Donald Trump in Detroit talking to 8,000 people at a Black church,” Conway boasted to Maria Bartiromo.

This is a photo taken of the crowd who showed up for a Trump's visit to a "black church".

Those are the whitest black folk I'll ever see!?

Trump: “See! ... Black people love me so much they spontaneously turn white!”

I see that Donald is literally STILL playing the “I can’t be racist, I have a black friend” card.

I've started to hear that deporting 10M workers will fix the housing crisis with no negative consequences. So there is some emerging competition for the dumbest fucking economic proposal I've ever heard lately.

Because those who support him are far from being normal people. Heck, I'm not sure they even biologically qualify as people. They don't meet the minimum intelligence requirements for such.

This thread should be renamed "The Republican and Trump batshit crazy" thread. I'll post this here

Fox News says the young people only care about food and dental dams. Or something. I don’t even fucking know anymore.

I had no clue what a "dental dam" was so I looked it up ...

Dental dams are thin, flexible pieces of latex or polyurethane used as a barrier between the mouth and the vagina or anus during oral sex.

Yeah ... Ok Fox news idiot. Those are exactly what young people ONLY care about ...wtf?

I live in south Florida's east coast and Trump to most people who I talk to who are not boomers scares the shit out of them with his crazy rantings and policy's, but they believe that is just "Trump being Trump" and if he's elected again there will be "sane" and "proper economic and other policy experts" put in charge that will run the correct policy changes that won't hurt them in their busy middle to upper class lives. These are pretty normal people. Not the ranting and raving MAGA nutjob. The majority of the Cuban/Hispanic population (especially the Hispanic boomers) down into Miami are in the bag for Trump because they left horrible authoritarian regimes and poor mismanaged countries and are brainwashed into thinking Biden and the Democrats are communists. Trump and DeSantis are wearing thin to some down here, to the point that some will be voting Biden, but not nearly enough IMO, although I live in a fairly "purplish" section of South Florida, I see the state being closer than people think. The easy way to brush off his crazy is to not really listen to it or brush it off as stuff he really won't do if elected. Very naive "nah nah nah" I can't hear you type of attitude. I warn them to not assume this is the case

LOL they left horrible authoritarian regimes and now they support an authoritarian wannabe who would love to be Putin or Kim. He has a whim, it happens. And a whiter than mayo racist to boot.

You can't cure stupid I guess. Good luck with that, minorities for Trump. It's like chickens voting for KFC, but it's (still) a free country so you do you. Hell my wife is childhood friends with the leader of a "Chinese for Trump" group here (they both came over to the US years ago) which is pretty pants-on-head nuts...
