I started off as a good Slytherin but since there is no consequence for being a complete douche or using the forbidden curses I ended up turning into an evil jackass by the end of the game.

My kids were really disappointed in me.

The house quests were kinda BS too. Hufflepuff gets to go to Azkaban. Ravenclaw the Owlery. Gryffindor the pumpkin patch for a head hunt. Slytherin has to put a piece of toast on a pedestal...

I did Gryffindor. Thanks for the heads up about how the quest changes. I knew how the game performed on hardware, but little about the game itself going in.

The music and visuals are immersive and well done. Good voice acting. Would have been nice if they gave enemies more trash talk lines and personalities. Maybe that is one of the places where a.i. can help out in the future? Making the NPCs more individualistic.

I am going to play Jedi Survivor now since it is on Game Pass. I will come back for another playthrough as Slytherin or Ravenclaw later.

I think the only evil path I took was with homie trying to save his sister that had been cursed. But for magic? Oh yeah, I went straight to the dark side.

Just played through the "Haunted Hogsmede" quest that was patched into the game. Was a Playstation exclusive until now.

Quest is gated for a while, it has to be Winter before the quest giver shows up, but it never goes away, so if you have a completed playthrough you should still be able to do the quest. However if you're starting a new character then it'll be a while before you get to do the quest.

It's pretty long, clocks in at 1.5-2 hours, and is one of the better quests in the game, so I can see why people were sort of pissed that it was a PS5 exclusive when the game generally doesn't have a lot of unique stuff to do outside of the main quest line to begin with.

Definitely worth firing the game up for. Reasonably spooky quest, if it's your thing you'll get more out of it playing it alone at night.

I know these don't amount to much, but God damn I really don't want HWL2 to be GAAS/Live Service trash.

WB has a mixed record on this, they've put out a lot of solid single player games, they tried some MTX stuff with LOTR shadows of war but patched that out after feedback, but then they released Suicide Squad, which was a complete dud.

Anything to push them away from screwing up HWL2, I will get behind.

I picked this up during the summer sale (along with Red Dead Redemption 2), but have yet to play it (just finally getting around to playing Fallout 4, even though I have had it since around 2017 or so... so as you can see I am still a bit far back in my games backlog). Anything that is a must need to know ahead of time or just dive right in?

-Yeah, it's a beautiful game, it's a fun game, but don't feel like you have to explore every book and cranny, there are no magical secrets awaiting you.

Outside of Hogwarts castle, the open world is pretty, but very dull and copy/pasted.

Turn to the darkside. The dark arts are the best. The room of requirement is well worth the time sink as a way to max out all your gear like gloves and cloak. Care and feeding of the magical creatures is surprisingly charming.

Just noticed this game on sale for 18 bucks. Seems like a no brainer pick up, am I missing something? By the way, how's the combat system? Any skill involved or just point and click easy stuff for the entire game?

Combat is up to you. You can get OP'd by game's end, or choose not to be. I found in big fights I had to dodge roll a lot. Spell selection and order of use can be important too. Knowing which enemy has a weakness to which spell. Using your wand to throw objects at them is always useful. Definitely a lot harder than point and click. You can get mobbed too.

It's an RPG so getting buffs and debuffs for your gear and creating potions is par for the course. I enjoyed all of it. Even capturing and caring for the magical beasts. Game takes a little while to let you get the training wheels off, but after it's a good time IMO.

Thanks! Just picked it up and added to my Steam library. By the way, never thought I'd be a fan of Steam, but I'm starting to see why they're so successful; just so easy to buy games, have great deals, and, gotta admit, I love the auto updates. I sure don't miss the old days where we have to check, download, update manually.

Great time to be a gamer!

GOG is the GOAT since it's DRM free and you can download the games or put them in your cloud storage so no one can take them away ever. But obviously some of the biggest publishers don't want that.

Steam is the next best though by far. I was against digital only myself at first, as physically owning games has advantages for the end user. I caved when the Half lIfe 2: Lost Coast demo came out. I gave that account to my son many years back and when he meets new online friends they always marvel at how long he has been a member.

Post back with your opinion on the game if you get a chance. It isn't for everyone, and the kids and cutesy stuff puts off some, while the performance on a lot of hardware puts off others.

Oh, right, GOG! Agreed, all things being equal, I'd prefer to buy from GOG, but I'd imagine the games I've been playing wouldn't be on there any time soon. As with everyone else, I'm not a big fan of DRM, but have gotten used to it, I suppose. I really like a physical copy too, but admittedly, I do enjoy the convenience of just ordering something and having Steam/GOG install and prepare it for me. The older I get, the more lazy I become, I suppose.

Sure, might start it this weekend. I know my youngest daughter would love this game and like GodsanAtheist, I'm going with the dark arts especially if there aren't any repercussion. I suspect, my daughter's going to disappointed in me too. LOL

Just started the game tonight and have reached the point where I've gotten my wand. So, still early, but I like the game so far.

Though not an avid HP fan, I do know enough of the premise of the story to instantly recognize much of the scenery and the sorting hat. It's a great looking game and runs very smoothly for me with most settings on ultra (on an RTX 3080 12GB OC), only with the occasional stutter.

While only playing only the initial stages, I can tell I'll enjoy the rest of the game. So far, it appears very well done.

I will jump in game today or tomorrow and do some testing. There are areas in the castle that a 5800X3D with 3600MT/s dropped below 60fps for a couple of seconds here and there with a 7900XTX and max everything including ray tracing. This game likes memory bandwidth so CL30 6000 and a 7800X3D should get rid of those. I want to start a new character with a different house too.

Last night, I was playing with the specs (the Nvidia alt r window) on, and with RT & ultra, I was at 60 FPS, but with intermittent dips to 50 - 55. With RT off, I'm mostly at around 70'ish. Clearly, at some point when the prices are right, at least for my taste, I'm upgrading to the AMD next gen cpu & 4080. Maybe Q2 of next year? Perhaps, the PS5 Pro, assuming I bite the bullet on this, will hold me over playing ER and some old titles. Heck, got Hogwarts for $20? So cheap, might buy a copy for the PS.
