Wow. All Newsweek and yet all four articles are fact based. The writing is tight and not given to any rhetorical excess.. And the last three is the first I've heard of what they reported.Tidbits:

Come for the waves, stay for the bomblets trying to take out the S-300 launchers in the hotel parking lot.
When have the lives of Russian peasants ever mattered? Never.Don't know why it is but this situation at the Crimean beach sort'a reminds me of the movie Jaws, where the business people and gov't agencies have a vested interest in keeping the beach packed with crowds to keep profits up and maintain the appearance that everything is just peachy keen. The top leaders in the region are practically extorting the local business owners and gov't officials to set the example by jumping in the water, get a tan, ignore the missiles and attack drones flying overhead.
Well the problem is a lot of beach goers in Crimean are not exactly peasants. At least historically they were among the more elite (maybe that's not true today as a lot of elite have trouble avoiding open windows). When have the lives of Russian peasants ever mattered? Never.
Their may be some acrimony between the official Viet Nam government and the US, but they aren't stupid.OK, so more .....

Exactly.. its one of the reasons why many Russians are brainwashed zombies in that a majority of the citizens have never been out of the country which is historically was something upper middle class to upper class folks in Russia did. If your whole world view revolves around Russia and what they say in their local propaganda media and politicians than you will view those outside Russia as something bad. The people in Crimea vacationing are rich but also brainwashed zombies thinking going to a beach in a war zone is a good idea.Well the problem is a lot of beach goers in Crimean are not exactly peasants. Even Russians in St. Petersburg and Moscow are incredibly weirdly paranoid and delusional about the outside world. They were convinced back in 2017 that Americans all hated them. When I told them Americans just didn’t think about Russia much they refused to believe me.Exactly.. its one of the reasons why many Russians are brainwashed zombies in that a majority of the citizens have never been out of the country which is historically was something upper middle class to upper class folks in Russia did. Haha I’m sure. They did seem sort of offended that we don’t think about them all the time like they think about us.Telling them they are not important enough for us to hate probably went over well with their massive collective inferiority complex.
Russians in Moscow were far better when I worked with them in 2003-2005, generally open and interested in U.S. / the west. All it took was a decade or so of Fox-like propaganda control of the media and constant series of wars of aggression for Putin to turn that narrative back around and get the public focused on external fictitious threats rather than internal failures.Even Russians in St. Petersburg and Moscow are incredibly weirdly paranoid and delusional about the outside world.
