Apple Store apps don't respect your privacy

So, if you were thinking about using that particular app to read some feed containing something relatively private, guess what, they're reading it too.

If you want to know which app, leave a message there with your contact email and maybe she will reply.

But I guess Apple is not the last bastion of privacy like some of their users proclaim. Why are apps on their store reading and possibly collecting user data? Shouldn't that be weeded out in their app approval process? Shouldn't they clearly warn on the app's store page that their activities on this particular app may be recorded by the app developer?

There may be some number of individuals who think Apple’s privacy stance means that they have the App Store perfectly on lock and nothing on any Apple devices can ever disturb your full privacy. I haven’t participated in any threads here on this site, have you encountered any with that view here?

There have been numerous examples problem apps on Apple’s store. Not only is there their review process far from perfect, I don’t think they even doing close to the best that they can do. but are you saying Apple should be judged toggle switch style? It’s perfect or it’s nothing? because I have always valued the prospects for privacy on Apple’s devices fully aware it’s not the end all and be all. This does nothing to change that.

I do support Apple users feeling comfortable being more aggressive in confronting issues like this than she appears to be. I feel app developers who steal data should have no expectation of privacy, I felt names should be dropped. Also, there are individuals who, if she doesn’t have the time, would publicly report this to Apple and seek a response that they can publish for everyone to see how Apple handles it.

She has reported some MacOS "USB device connectivity issue after resuming from sleep" in the past. They basically ignored her even though she told them exactly how to reproduce the issue. Guess it was some hardware issue that couldn't be fixed in software or they pretended it was some weird edge case (yeah, ignore your customers with edge cases. Great work, Apple!). So that might explain why she doesn't care that much about reporting it directly to Apple.

It would be weird if that was the reason. Because what company does better?

Talking about Apple’s problems doesn’t affect me because I’ve experienced far too many issues of of my own. But I also have extensive experience with Windows, Android, Linux, HP, Asus, MSI, Lenovo, Samsung, HTC, and LG.

My question isn’t “does Apple not come with boatloads of problems of every category?” It’s “is there anyone who’s not worse?”

I like KDE, but mainstream, practical issues mean Linux still can’t be more than my side chick. So dropping Apple because of privacy concerns means Microsoft (“What?!!”) and/or Google (“WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!!!!!!!!!!!”)

You can always count on apple to faithfully follow the ferengi rules of acquisition. Nothing else.
