I stepped outside for a few minutes thinking about taking my morning walk. Started feeling wet almost immediately. Hard to get a breath. Came back inside.
In spite of the stifling heat, I got my lawn mowed yesterday...the fckn skeeters kept trying to carry me off...but skeeter control mis-under-estimated (if you know, you know) my size. I prevailed! Even managed to drag out the rainbird sprinkler for the part of the lawn that was turning brown.
It's been a very wet spring/summer. Mosquitos are super-prevalent, grass is growing faster than I can keep it mowed because of all the rain. And my yard is covered in frogs even though I don't live anywhere near a pond or other body of water.
I got smart I don't book vacation in July anymore. It's always way too hot to do anything. Pickings are slim anyway as I'm 2nd last on the seniority list but there was a few weeks left that I could have taken. I got 2 weeks coming in fall instead though. Fall is a gamble as sometimes it just rains non stop but if it doesn't rain, it's usually a very good time to do outdoor work. No bugs, and not as hot.
Looks like we had a high of around 90F today. No wonder all of the kitties are nowhere to be seen - they're under bushes or in the shade. Plants seem to keep them cooler (plant respiration I suppose). Plus since the ground underneath is shaded all day, that's probably a lot cooler too.
