The Oklahoma State Supervisor announced that the bible is a historical document and that each classroom will be required to have a bible in the classroom and teach from the bible.

So we will be issuing a memo today that every school district will adhere to, which is that every teacher, every classroom in the state, will have a bible in the classroom and will be teaching from the bible in the classroom to ensure that this historical understanding is there for every student in the state of Oklahoma in accordance with our academic standards and state law. “

When I first read this I was hoping it was something from The Onion, unfortunately it is not.

To be clear, it's this is an argument that is based on a myth. On a lie. You’re not going to find the separation of church and state in the Constitution. It’s not there. You’re not going to see the founders describe religion in this way. But what you are seeing is a court that lacks an understanding of the Constitution. And we are prepared to challenge this all the way to the US Supreme Court to make sure that religious liberty is protected in the state of Oklahoma and that parents have all options available," said Walters.
Related to the Supreme Court decision, Walters announced on Thursday that every teacher and classroom will be required to have a Bible and that he would be issuing a memo to every school district in Oklahoma about the decision. Walters cited a state statute regarding historical documents, claiming the Bible is a document that has significance to historical events as well as the foundation of America.
"The last is, we’re going to make an important announcement today regarding the bible and the Ten Commandments. My staff has been looking at Oklahoma statute, we’ve been looking at Oklahoma Academic standards. And it’s crystal clear to us that in the Oklahoma academic standards under Title 70 on multiple occasions, the bible is a necessary historical document to teach our kids about the history of this country, to have a complete understanding of western civilization, understand the basis of our legal system, and frankly talking about the bible one of the most foundational documents used for the constitution and the birth of our country. We also find major points in history that refer to the bible, reference the bible.
We see multiple figures whether we’re talking about the Federalist Papers, constitutional conventional arguments, and Martin Luther King Jr who used it as a tremendous impetus for the civil rights movement and tied many of those arguments back to the bible. It is essential that our kids have an understanding of the bible and its historical context. “
In a follow-up statement, ODSE's Communications Director stated that per the memorandum all Oklahoma schools are required to incorporate the Bible, which includes the Ten Commandments, as an instructional support into the curriculum across specified grade levels. This directive is in alignment with the educational standards approved on or about May 2019, with which all districts must comply. They added that the State Department of Education may supply teaching materials for the Bible, as permissible, to ensure uniformity in delivery.

In a Thursday press conference, Walters added that “every teacher, every classroom in the state will have a Bible in the classroom, and will be teaching from the Bible in the classroom.”

I live in FL and have to take the heat for all the stupidities of Florida man as well as the heinous deeds of DeSantis and now I have to add this since my high school and college are a product of the Oklahoma educational system. I'm lucky to make it through the day.

I don't live in those states, but if they tried that shit here in Pennsylvania, I'd sue every teacher that has a bible in their classroom, and the school, for trying to indoctrinate my child into another religion.

I'm all for this and highlighting how insane it is. "Now children this is how you know if a Christian hasn't actually read the bible. Jesus was a socialist and would be against the greed, lies, and hate that Republicans are perpetrating."

Then make these assholes defend their behavior against the Bible, whilst they swear on it. Out them for the dumbasses they are, and hammer them with it. Liberals should embrace the Bible big time and just constantly throw it condemning Republicans' behavior. Dumbfound these morons for the hypocrites they are.

There's literally no way they can go after teachers teaching what's in the Bible that they won't end up pissed off about as its blatantly socialistic and against most of the policies that Republicans have. If they get mad about it then its their own faults and then watch as they try to twist the Bible and then make them have to read that shit, wherein it'll be obvious they're misinterpreting it or are spouting stuff that will make people turn against them more (like beating slaves and shit that's in there).

They just need to start teaching that Genesis stories are based on myths of surrounding cultures and see how fast this will get stopped.

And here I thought this had already been decided in the 1960's when
Madalyn O'Hair brought it to the Supreme Court and they ruled that required bible reading and recitation were unconstitutional in public schools.

The trick I see here is now they are trying to position it as "history" and therefore permissible vs, religious teaching.

It's transparent bullshit but I can see at least 3 votes on the current SCOTUS to accept it.

Unfortunately we are moving backwards, or at least some of the country is trying to.

Time for people to start hanging up 'the historical quotes' for all to see, everywhere. First up, Ezekiel 23:20.

Bright red. Font size 4500. When they get taken down, put them right back up, ad infinitum.

Maybe some Hosea 13:16 for the ardently pro life folks in attendance "The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their god. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open."

Ahhhhh, 'history.'
