Question Calibration Point: What % Faster Do You Think the 9800x3D will be over the 7800x3D

I have a 7800X3D and love the chip. I'm guessing there are a ton of people like myself that bought it for the upgrade path to the 9000 series. Please weigh in on the subject question from your POV.

My guesstimate is 30% Am I being wildly optimistic? What is your estimate?

10-15% if the non x3d metrics carry over.

We should probably widen this to 10-25% because there's a reasonable chance that a lower voltage requirement will translate into higher clocks for 9800X3D over 7800X3D.

Something like 5-8% higher clocks might be doable.

Too many uncertainties at this point to know for sure. But given that a lot of games LOVE the extra cache it should be at minimum similar uplift that 5800X3D and 7800X3D brought to their respective lineups. However, each generation of X3D chip has brought minor improvements (e.g. PBO with 7800X3D) and I suspect we'll see improvement in fMax and voltage curve for the 9800X3D.

I will go with 20-25% faster - ~16% IPC and up to 8% higher clocks.

New IPC is at the same power as now, 7950x already uses all available PPT and the new PPT did not increase...

The new node is more compact which means even more heat on an even smaller size, if it gets 15% better MT it would already be a great result but if AMD didn't fix the heatspreader you won't get that 15% MT with any amount of sane cooling.

If you undervolt to the point where some apps won't run anymore that's a different story.
There is a reason they reduced the PPT for the smaller skus and that's that it's tougher to get higher clocks now so they concentrate on lower power.
