This is a placeholder for my 9950x build. I hope to be the first to get one. I make extensive use of avx-512 in my distributed computing world. Even though most of my projects are medical based, I am intrigued by primegrid, and we have competitions using it, and they manage their jobs very well.

Please do not post here unless you are in the process of a build or have questions regarding your upcoming build. Or suggestions on someone elses build, but all build related. All Zen 5 discussion in general should be in THAT thread.

My proposed build (to be changed as things evolve)

9950x CPU
Asrock motherboard. Not sure what model yet, but my X670E Taichi has been bulletproof. Actually, I might use that entire case, as it has a 420 AIO unit, rated as the best available.
32 or 64 gig DDR5 6400 . Maybe faster, again soo how it evolves.
1 TB NVME. Compatible with whatever PCIE version is on the motherboard.
Nvidia 4090 ---- Edit: I got a good deal on a 4090, so..... NONvidia 5090 video card. I will stick my my 3090TI until its available.

Will 99% surely upgrade from 7950X to 9950X. The Asus Hero has been great so far (except very occasional BT audio crackling), so I plan on keeping it. However, I haven't yet decided on what to do with the 7950X so if I keep it, I might be in the market for a new motherboard. The RAM situation will probably decide, if for some reason (unlikely) I can't get to the new recommended 'sweet spot' RAM speed (6400? 7200?), I might get a X870E.

What I'm the most excited about, because of my current AI hobby (LLM, but image/video models might require more in the future too), is higher density RAM coming out (probably not in July though). I'm tempted to get a 128GB or 192GB 2 stick kit (never running 4 again).

I'm 99% sure I won't buy a Zen 5 CPU, but that's because I don't have a good reason to build a PC to begin with.

With that said, I hope everyone who does get a Zen 5 CPU is satisfied with their purchase. Please make sure to do plenty of testing and benchmarking for the rest of us.

My testing with only be of use for DC people. If @Det0x gets one, thats your source of benchmarking.

For the lucky few that live near a Micro Center, it depends on how good the sales / combo's are.

Will probably do the same thing I did with the 7800X3D, wait ~6 months after the Zen4 X3D parts were released and see what the price drops are.

Wow, this thread was up fast! No Zen5 for me for a while, but I'm sure this will be an interesting read.

I'm thinking about it. I would be upgrading from an Intel 8700K so it should be a decent jump. I have a 4090 so this will bring things in line with the graphics side.

What resolution do you game at? If you game? If so, how badly do you feel the 8700K holds the 4090 back? Just curious.

Yep, honestly tempted to skip the reviews so i don’t lose control…must wait for X3D variant…
I think that's what I'm going to do this time around. X3D, probably an 8 core. I haven't been testing out various linux related distros and NAS OSes lately and I'm not running any old or new version of Windows to check out various problems and compatibility. Less cores will be good, so long as max clocks aren't terrible.

I'm potentially sidegrading from 7800X3D to whatever I will be able to lay my hands on, even if it has only 6 cores.
In the end, new is new and interesting 🤔

4K, so not really a big deal. Will probably help some with in-game scripting and minimum frame rates.

Looks like I'll be skipping the 9950X.

Hope the rumors of Zen 5 X3D coming out in September are true.

My 7950X3D with tuned X3D CCD and HF CCD disabled will almost certainly not be beat by the 9950X in gaming.

I will be going Zen 5 X3D also.

Will grab a 870E motherboard probably Asus Prime version
Need to see review of memory scaling before I decide on RAM speed will be 2x16 at the min but I may go 2x32
And I will need to upgrade my Cooler as this one is AM4 only and that should be it.

The rest of the components in my sig will transfer over.

2x24GB should be an option as well. That'll be what I go for next.
to be honest I completely forgot about that i'm so use to memory going 8,16,32,64

If I need more than 32GB i think I would rather just go to 64 instead of 48.

I need the IF and memory speed question answered more than anything else but will have to wait for reviews.

Waiting to see ITX board options but I *may* take the plunge and get a 9950X or a 9800X3D. Need to see third party reviews first.

Respect for the medical based projects.

I am only posting here, because I do not have a Zen CPU, but recently got a 7900XTX, see sig.
Catching alot of flak for my setup, but it is what I bought years ago before D3 launched, and went 1st time custom water with hardline tubing which all came out at that time. I was late or too busy to complete the desired build at the time, and slapped an air cooled bulldozer cpu in the old computer which lasted quite some time, Asrock Fatality mobo at the time, Had CHVFZ with Piledriver FX8320 for the custom loop build. Problem was the Caselabs case was TOO big and needed custom wiring. Plus alot of IRL stuff which eventually brought my wife and myself to gain custody of our granddaughters over a lengthy period of time.

Back to the criticism of my current build. I have participated in the steel nomad thread. Who bought a 7900 XTX thread ect. But even with running W11 on this old gear, it is doing fine for what I need it to do.

I am patiently waiting on the Z5 release to see where the USER reviews line up. Over at OCN, their 7900XTX thread has a ton of useful info in it, and does not correlate to the day 1 reviews that seem to really get dissed over here. I've tried, but it wears you out.

I want to see if the new 870Xe if they are like the 670Xe mobos, or there are changes.
I am also unsure of which way to go with DDR5, I will need that.
I also want to see what the 9800X3D changes in regards to the release versions of 9000 series not beating 7800X3D in gaming.
Also my disposable spending, is not at a place where I can order everything at once, so it will be a process.

Biggest decision will be older motherboards and 7800x3d or newer motherboards and see how the X3D 9k land.

Proposed build as evolves.
9800X3D
870X(e)? vs 670Xe
DDR5 highest bin I can afford, unless prices start going up, I'll have to grab this first. Planning on 2 stick solution, 32 or 64GB unless they increase chip capacity density.
Largest NVME drive I can manage with a secondary highest capacity SSD I can manage.
Keeping Nitro+ 7900xtx with Alphacool waterblock. (will worry about the 550w bios later if needed)

Look forward to updating in the future.

I am running 2x48GB for 96GB total. It's rated for 6400 CL32. It'll do 6000 CL28 tuned timings with no issues.

Whatever capacity you need, there should be a good option, whether 2x16, 2x24, 2x32, or 2x48. I don't need more than 96GB so I haven't tried 2x64GB yet.

Are there any good high performance 2x64GB kits yet?

I am looking forward to the 9950X but still unsure if I will buy it or keep my Zen3 for a little longer until the X3D comes out

I only see server modules for 64gb, but 2x48 gig, there are 6400 and 6800, pretty good stuff !

Any idea what the new motherboards will support ram wise?

Seen a click bait on Google feed about dram prices going to increase but not sure why it would be. I didn't click the bait.

Waiting to see what 870x(e)? Brings feature wise.

I have seen support for 7200, but then others that say 6400 (in EXPO mode)
