Yes. Other USSS stuff I saw online: the roof in question would be more "middle ground" protection areas, which often falls to local/state law enforcement. Counter-snipers are often searching further afield for more long-distance threats. They also noted there is often little cross communication between local police and USSS - usually only 1-2 liaisons, and when you have a bunch of local/state police working together when they normally don't, you can get some weird shit happening. Yeah some of us own ARs but certainly not all of us. It's a cheap platform, easy to use, and has the most accessories of anything else available so it's popular regardless. I have one but barely shoot it because it's boring as hell after a mag or two. The platform was more than capable of accomplishing what he wanted at that range, likely experience of the shooter being the decisive factor in the outcome here.
