Probably too late now, but the excellent RM750x Shift is on sale for $90:

Same price at Amazon (where there are some targeted promos for certain credit card holders. For example, Discover Card holders are sometimes eligible for $10 off $75).

This PSU is considered Tier A, and has a 10 year warranty.
Yea i ended up going with the RM 650 for $79 instead. Should meet my needs and modular. Thanks!

Hey guys. Got the all the parts by Friday and had a chance to put the rig together with my daughter. Was able to get the rig to boot, but not without some initial issues. On first boot i had red lights on the mobo. After normal troublie shooting and removing and adding parts, I discovered I had the ram in the wrong slots. I started with A1/B1, but needed to be in A2/B2 for some reason. Once I figured that out, it booted but the wireless kb/mouse combo I had wouldn't work. Went through my stash of old parts and found a wired combo and was able to fix everything and all is good! Thanks for all the help in getting the parts together.

But now I have another question regarding the case fans. Sometimes when I power up the rig, I noticed not all the fans spin. I can see when first powered on, the fans move a tiny bit, but then not spin. I have to "nudge" them somehow to start spinning. I have the 3 fans daisy-chained and plugged into one fan header. Is that one typically enough to power all 3 fans? Should I plug at least one of the fans directly into the header to take some load off? Or are the fans just cheap and should be replaced?

Edit: The fans are random in not spinning. Sometimes both fronts won't spin, sometimes just one of the fronts spin, and sometimes the rear doesn't spin.

Since it's your first build in a while consider sticking with the pre-applied paste. Graphite pads are great but they are a bit fragile and it’s a bit hard to have them stay in place. You have to handle them with care and accuracy. They also lose some of their form after being compressed so you can't have the same thermal conductivity if you reuse them. They also are electrically conductive which is not good if you have a tear, especially with cpus like the 7000 series with all those exposed circuits. If you want to go with after-market thermal paste I would recommend Noctua’s NT-H2 AM5 edition. It is very good for cooling, it is not electrically conductive so you can’t short-circuit and damage anything and it comes with an AM5 thermal paste guard which is nothing more than a plastic sheet that helps keep excessive thermal paste away from the cpu’s circuits.

I would also go for RAM that supports AMD EXPO to avoid any problems. I’ve just ordered a pair of Kingston Beast which has EXPO profiles for running at 6000 or 6400. 6000 is the sweet-spot for the 7000 series while 6400 is the sweet-spot for the 9000.

Didn't see the last two posts. Probably too late also....

Congrats on the build! Did your daughter have fun?

This likely has to do with the fan curve applied in the BIOS for your fans. Every fan has a minimum RPM that it can spin. The fan curve in the BIOS provides an output from 0-100%. If you haven't changed any of the fan curves the default value might just be a little too low, slightly below the minimum RPM speed for the fans you have.

Example: Let's say the fan you have operates between 500 and 2000 RPM. So at 100% output from the motherboard your fan would spin at roughly 2000 RPM. the minimum would be 500/2000 or 25%. If the fan curve was set to say 20%, that is below the minimum so there is not enough output from the motherboard to spin the fan. Every fan is slightly different, even the same model fan. One might operate at 24%, but another one may not operate at 26%.

So you could try bumping the default fan curve to see if that helps. Let us know. You may want to go into BIOS and post a picture of the fan curve.

This is great info. In all my previous years of building I never heard or had to deal with fan curve lol. I'll take a look in BIOS and see what I can find. And yeah, she had a blast learning about the hardware and where everything went, what everything did. When we were trying to install the OS and the kb didn't work, she tried tapping on the monitor, not realizing it wasn't touch screen lol. That's how long she hasn't used a desktop!

Update: Forgot to take a pic of the fan curve but was able to make some adjustments and they appear to be running fine now. Thanks!

Crappy pics of the rig. So far it's running great, definitely overkill for Roblox, Minecraft runs awesome but gain she doesn't do any modding (yet if ever). It's setup up in our "test bench" aka dining room until she makes some space in her room. Plus easier to access if I get any issues for now.
