for, in the harshest winter, he immerses himself in water, then at once pours himself into the dust, until the dust mixed with water is frozen, and this is repeated several times, until thick enough to resist the blades, weapons, and arrows. When this is done, this nation is brought against the Tartars with a great charge, for then the arrows shot at by the adversaries return back, and likewise they cannot be harmed in any way by other weapons.
Wherefore the Cynocephali, making an attack on the Tartars unharmed, killed many by biting wounds.
