If I read the article I linked to correctly I believe the forums will still be active. Is the forum just going to disappear as well?
The forums will still be here. There is an announcement on the front page
The hardforums are exactly the same (just more deranged)Crazy these forums are still kicking around and that it will outlive the site itself.
Agree totally on the written word Vs video thing. Sometimes videos make sense, I'm trying to work out what new case to get and some of the video sites are helpful (Gamers Nexus ironically enough) but I don't need a video of a GPU review! This is so sad. I discovered AnandTech during a PC build I was doing in 1999. I've been a member of the forums since 2001. I've referenced the knowledge and advice here from articles and the forums for every build since.
25 years is a long time.
I HATE video content now being favored over written content. It appeals to short attention spans and cannot possibly be as in depth as needed. When video does attempt to go in depth it takes hours to get to the relevant information you could have found in minutes in a written article (I'm looking at you Gamers Nexus). I don't want to be entertained about tech, I want to be informed. I want reference material, not tech sitcoms or droning speeches.
Goodbye, my old friends. Yes, I know the forums will remain open... for who knows how long though.
This is a pretty good idea tbh.Where's the new forum backup plan?
Even if the forum goes, we might create a subreddit because more than a forum, we are a communityIs the forum just going to disappear as well?

Snap, MINE.Even if the forum goes, we might create a subreddit because more than a forum, we are a community
The only times I have been at reddit is when a Google points me there. Might have to start.Snap, MINE.
Ha, beat the canuk to this one.
In the walls? [Grabs axe]Writings in the wall guys, forums won’t last forever. We better start buying stuff from the links.
Same, I started coming around here in 1997 or 1998, I believe. I started working on the AnandTech news team in 1999 IIRC. At the time, I was a freshman in college, and Anand plucked me from these same forums because I was always posting tech news stories. He asked, how about you get paid to do that same stuff? As a broke college kid, I couldn't refuse. Those were the days, it’s sad to see it go away. This is so sad. I discovered AnandTech during a PC build I was doing in 1999.
