Wow this is sad news. I found the site when looking for GPU reviews early 2010's, and for a long time it had the best GPU reviews, and comparison tables.

Is the forum self sustainable through advertisement revenue? What's the traffic these days? As long as it's still seen as a community where you can get answers, or news led by posters it can still have a long life.

Hi folks, I made a separate thread on this to make sure it gets visibility and the most important thing to answer, that many folks already have, is that even though we are ceasing content creation on the main site, there are no plans to close the forum at this time.

I feel a bit sad. The loss of one of the most detailed engineering focussed journalistic resources. :-( I haven't been a part of the forum side of things much at all, but I've visited the website (and later the RSS feed) almost every day since about the late '00s, learnt a lot from the in-depth knowledge of each author's area of specialisation, and even recommended products and strategies to people due to a large part of the scientific and detailed approach to the writing.

The Bench has been _incredibly_ useful to me over the years. Time to ask The Internet Archive team if they would be so kind as to archive the entire site. :-/

A big thank you to everyone involved. <3

Edit:
This made me smile, at least: "For better or worse, we’ve reached the end of a long journey – one that started with a review of an AMD processor, and has ended with the review of an AMD processor." From the K6 to the Ryzen 9 9950X - a slight performance improvement.

No new accounts can be created on these forums. That's fine. No more spam accounts to deal with.

Rough news. All things must pass, I guess.

When I was in high school, we (my friend group) used this and Xtremesystems as our "bible and guide" to overclocking, modifying, or analyzing tech/pc hardware. We all slowly stopped using the site as much because other alternatives came along (as well as us upgrading less often due to age/responsibilities). I will say the big turning point for us was around the time when Anand left and it just kinda became "as good" as alternatives if not worse. I'm not sure what it was, but it lost the homey, close-knit vibe that originally brought my friends to post here in OT.

It also doesn't help that Reddit has come along and offers the same thing as many forums did, but in one easy-to-use platform (same layout, less obvious ads, one account). At the moment there's really no reason to go to specific forums (for me atleast) unless it's very niche or worth it.

Sucks, but I hope everyone else has found an alternative or side-place besides ATOT like many have over the past decade. So many memories, growing experiences, and great chats were had here and I'll miss it.

Hate to see this happen. Joined the original forums back before they switched and had everyone rejoin in Oct 1999. Built my first PC with knowledge I got from this site (Celeron 300 overclocked to 450). Although I didn't post much I always relied on this site for thorough reporting and forum member's knowledge when building my PCs over the years.

What's going to keep the lights on for these forums? Obviously with the main page gone, there will be no more revenue.

Is Future US going to foot the bill for free out of the kindness of their corporatey hearts?

Have you seen what a k6-2 300 can do in Quake2 with 3DNow?

Oh, hell yeah!!! The Celeron 300A was the bomb diggity!! And, of course, this site is where I learned about making it happen.

Bummer. I didn't find the site till around 2010 or slightly earlier. Lurked the forums till around 2011 and decided to register. A lot of knowledge in the articles, hopefully the forums will stay up for a lot longer so I can continue to waste some time with you bastards...

That processor made the Tech Internet last as long as it did. Never had one, but it drove the DIY craze into the stratosphere.

Wow. The Abit AX-5 article is what brought me here when I was 14. It's sad, but I suppose inevitable. There are a few YouTubers who have the Anandtech spirit - Gamers Nexus and Actually Hardcore Overclocking, but nothing will ever be the same. Goodbye my friend.

Ryan delivered a parting shot at the likes of Gamers Nexus where he mentioned sensationalism.

Yeah, Steve's getting an ego, but I wouldn't say he's sensationalist yet. Just my opinion. GN still does a lot of deep dives and generally quality journalism, IMO.

I just remembered all of the articles and work the team here did when SSDs started coming on the scene. Crazy times.

Joined up here to say 'sorry this happened' and 'I enjoyed reading Anandtech', glad to see long-time lifers still using the forum and beating the likes of moving into a subreddit or facebook group. I've lurked a long time as an anon coward, so thanks all for keeping on the real web all this time. Here's hoping this forum still goes a while longer yet.
