Per Ryan Smith's post on the front page, Future said they will maintain the existing site and forums. Just no more reviews or new content going forward. It seems that will be within the purview of Tom's Hardware (also owned by Future).

As is said, was expected. I'll try & put a up-spin on this.

The available ad revenue will be spread over less existing sites, allowing them to continue in a stronger position that would otherwise be the case.

Damn… such a shame. I hope that the other sites can at least benefit and provide the rigor that was always practiced here.

Nice. I enjoy this place for what it is now. I'm guessing in the longer term it will probably be shut down as well. WIth the clickbait on YouTube and the noise of stock price and memes and drama on reddit, the discussion here is still worth reading for me.

What gets me is that I haven't been to Tom's in >20years and much of the time I was there I was ATvTH trolling them. AT had the better Forum interface, it seemed to matter at the time.

Long time coming. I should go back through and reread their deep dive articles while they're still available. Or maybe I'll try and make an offline copy.

Too bad, but it has been years since I went to the AT main content. My only interest is gaming, and their gaming tests (usually late and with a limited set of games) were a terrible combination of settings, usually done with a less than state of the art gpu. I hope the Forums continue on, but it seems likely they will eventually be phased out. Lots of good information and links in the forums; you just have to filter out the fanboy content from both sides.

Any suggestion as to where to migrate?
If forums will get closed (really hope not), there's tom's hardware, techpowerup forums, but I have no clue how close they are to AT forums. Can't Future PLC just keep main AT website in a frozen state, supported by ad revenue? Somewhat works for Fandom and other websites

F.

What is the "wounded monitor children" that Ryan Smith talks about?
Hot deal on monitors from Buy.com that did not get fulfilled. It's from the last century iirc. People were losing their minds over it.

I knew AT was not long for this world when GPU reviews stopped and it was obvious they decided to prop up Tom's instead. The doc leaving was the final confirmation.

That is the most likely path forward. Kyle still has HardOCP forums up for example.

Think how sad it is that a site with such a terrible reputation as Tom's garnered over the years is the one chosen to continue. When Anand was considered the most trustworthy guy in the game. Makes zero sense if you know the history of PC tech sites. Hell, Tom's has been constantly getting roasted for shilling to this day. Absolute madness.

Some options not yet mentioned in no particular order:

overclockers.com - Used to be a premier enthusiast site but nearly died after the founder left and the tech world changed over time. Main site still limps along and the forum has a small but dedicated bunch maintaining it.
overclockers.co.uk - Very active forum, not the strictest moderation. Site is part of a computer parts store in the U.K. so I imagine it will be around as long as DiY computers are a thing.
linustechtips.com - Very active forum. Not exactly my type of crowd and I'll leave it at that.
realworldtech.com - Very technically heavy discussions. I don't visit too often just because the forum format is horrendous (IMO).
reddit.com - Uhhh, that's all.

I was rudely reminded of how poor the journalism at Tom's is when I looked at their NH-D15 G2 review. They explicitly remark there's a rattling noise and they think there's a defect, and if it was any other brand of cooler they would contact the mfg about it and get a replacement before moving forward with publishing the review. But because it's Noctua, they will not.

Mind you, 1 month prior to this Tom's ran an article about the well-known rattle issue plaguing the newly release NH-D15 G2 coolers, so they should have clearly known it was a defect that is recognized by noctua and contacted them for a statement regarding a possible fix, and potentially even received a prototype of whatever the fix is to use for review testing.

Man... I don't like TH. HardOCP is alright. I came to this site early on to learn about building computers. In fact, I built my first PC based off of motherboard roundup reviews by Anand himself. I've become more active on Reddit. However, I've seen Reddit and YouTube take down many message boards. Very sad news. I'll be around as long as Future keeps AT forums going. Can't say I will migrate to TH.

Cheers!
