I think everyone will find it and post in the next week, then...I dunno. We may just learn to live with the guillotine ready to fall on us any day for however many months left.
To think that I make wiki-style articles and post them here only for the forums to remind me that "Memento Mori, Fora Quoque".

Back when the site was having the troubles with connectivity I put together an emergency Discord:

It's not in use cause... Discord.

But the invite link is above. Might be a good staging area in the event this site goes down.

Posted this in the other AT closing down Thread. Not a bad idea to make an account and get onto discord JUST IN CASE this site goes down, then regroup on Reddit or some other forum that has a good vibe.

You and I both post under the same handles on TPU. That's where we should go when the time comes. Good crew over there.

Some options not yet mentioned in no particular order:

overclockers.com - Used to be a premier enthusiast site but nearly died after the founder left and the tech world changed over time. Main site still limps along and the forum has a small but dedicated bunch maintaining it.
overclockers.co.uk - Very active forum, not the strictest moderation. Site is part of a computer parts store in the U.K. so I imagine it will be around as long as DiY computers are a thing.
linustechtips.com - Very active forum. Not exactly my type of crowd and I'll leave it at that.
realworldtech.com - Very technically heavy discussions. I don't visit too often just because the forum format is horrendous (IMO).

reddit.com - Uhhh, that's all.
sadly the most influential platform in 2024 - by far - is reddit.

while all real old forums go down, reddit goes up, total global forum monopoly. views and activity numbers exponentially higher than any other

but it's very interesting how the view quoted is shared by most,

basically even if it's the biggest platform by far, it's still seen as a trashpile. of course it is, but it's a very influential trashpile.

We get good traffic here. Especially since we have made the new cycle frequently and get attribution in youtube vids. I surmise there is a strong enough financial incentive to keep us around. They have to know most of us would not go to Tom's. I will not be associated with that place. I'll spend more time at TPU. It's a bit more wild and woolly there, but when you don't have to police it, it is strictly for the LULZ.
As little SEO traffic as it might get, the outbound link farming from Anandtech should be pure gold. They could sell 10 permalinks per year and pay for hosting.

Let me be clear - Anandtech.com is a highly trusted site by Google. Even if it doesn't get traffic on new articles, how it fits into the web in terms of backlink profile is sick.

It has articles that will have high ranking and keywords forever.

Whoever owns anandtech.com can instant give trust and flow to other properties. They'd be mad to do anything but to keep it running.

In my experience.

I mean, if its for sale, I'll pay something for it. In case any of the overlords read this thread.

In case anyone was wondering what the "most valuable" forum threads were worth - and about

RIP AT. May the forums continue on, for awhile at least.
The Zen 5 speculation thread has over 4 million views alone. No guessing what the corpos will do, but I'd be surprised if they killed us off anytime soon. It's possible we outperform the main site on visitors every month. I invite our corpo overlords to confirm or deny it.

It's clear Tom's strangled the main site for their own survival. Let's see if they come back to finish the job. They say the killer always returns to the scene of the crime.

IMHO AT had by far The Best coverage for all desktop computer technology and its overlaps

but soon desktops won't be a thing, the world has changed a lot. phones, laptops, handhelds, cloud, AI.

it's a natural course.

That's been predicted since the PS3/360 days. Yet desktops account for 9 figures in total install base despite only being 20% of the market. PC gaming was worth 46 billion last year. Desktops are part of that. The lack of PC gaming content here is probably one of the primary factors driving this site's decline in traffic.

that thread has been the Eye of the Cyclone for lack of a specific term - when a specific space on the internet achieves some kind of critical mass and gains the attention of 'everyone'

big reason for that was leakers , then momentum / update frequency / drama

but in this case 'everyone' is insiders and editors from 50 other sites who distill the news into small articles, which then gain more attention as they are more easily discoverable on 2024 internet, unlike traditional forums

i.e. 4 mil views is nothing compared to a 50k subreddit where they get these numbers on the regular
you can imagine how many millions views a 500k subreddit gets, e.g. the AMD subreddit etc

100%, vast majority of remaining desktop enthusiasts are pc gamers, basically the main remaining use case for desktops
but even that part is already getting reduced to 4K+ gamers... I can play literally everything in 2K on my slim phoenix 4060 laptop

Reddit being successful does not preclude these forums surviving. Your speculation about the Zen 5 thread is also incorrect, as the Apple, Meteor Lake, and Alder Lake threads all have millions of views too.

The forums get more than enough traffic to pay for the servers and bandwidth is my contention.

Bruh, workstations, office PCs, and crappy OEM prebuilts are the majority of desktop sales.

And we are derailing the thread. Pour one out for the main site.

Personaly i never go at THG unless someone here post a link for some review or info, dunno what AT owner has in mind, it s a certainity that their other sites wont collect the traffic, it may well be the VideoCardz and other WCCFTech who will get the spoils.

Anyway a sad day, this is yet another nail in the coffin of what was once the golden age of IT outlets, we dont count all those who disappeared or were neutered by some ads motivated buyer, The Inquirer, Xbit Labs, Tech Report, french site Hardware.fr and many others.

Yes, please! Now that I'm back and missing everything that isn't stickied... and most that is... but still...
That's one for one against so far.

And what is the deal with fools calling HUB AMD Unboxed? Steve has been absolutely destroying AMD the last couple of months.

I post occasionally over at TPU on a different handle that is older than this one. I also post on Reddit far too often and overclockers.co.uk but not very often.

Anandtech has been slowly sinking since Anand left and since Ian left I don't think I have visited the main page outside of a misclick, I just come straight to the forums.

All my favourite sites are gone now aside from TPU. I guess it will be between them, GN and HUB for reviews now and maybe the odd peak at computer base and pc games hardware along with the meta reviews 3d centre do.
