Hi folks,

We wanted to make sure that you’re aware of this article that just went out regarding the future of Anandtech.

I wanted to clarify that even though we are ceasing content creation on the main site, there are no plans to close the forum at this time.

We know the forum has a long history, people have made a home here for decades and will have concerns. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask with the understanding that most likely can’t be answered right now or will be covered by it having no impact on the forum. Aside from that please be sure to let the team know how much you've appreciated their work in the article comments, there's a lot of very kind words there already and they're well earned.

What will happen to The Bench, please? What is the possibility that the database that powers the bench can be archived on GitHub or The Internet Archive so that people can download it and have access to the data, please? Heck, even as a big simple CSV if necessary.

A big thank you to everyone involved. <3

Well, I will say the news got me to log back in!! Thank you for keeping the forums running! Y'all are my entertainment plan for retirement (which, considering I joined freshman year of college is really saying something...) so gotta keep it going in the meantime!

Very sad news. Can anyone suggest a new homepage for me? Toms doesn't have the same feel or calibre.

At least the forums live on, for how long who knows.

I may be among your oldest lurkers. Thanks for the great coverage. My favorite of all time was the Threadrippers with different performance on different CCXs. Thanks Ian. Thanks Gavin. Thanks Ryan.

Now, which of you will work for Conde and help Ars? Which of you will join the Economist and help with their tech section (Rothschilds?).

I read the article about AT shutting down and I had to drop by. To quote the Beatles (if you're old enough to remember them), "I don't know why you say, Goodbye. I say, Hello." It's been far too long.

For those who don't remember me, Russ and I were the first AnandTech Forum Admins. When we moved to a new software platform in October, 1999, my profile ID was #5 or #6, right after Anand, himself, and the guys who ran the system. Russ and I were Senior Admins on the previous several software iterations, as well.

As I recall, we did a lot of good for our members, particularly in FS/T where we chased bad traders and listed the worst in our ~~~ Traders To Avoid ~~~ thread, which is still a sticky at the top of the forum.

Possibly my most exciting memory was in 2009 when I was able to intervene in a possible suicide in New Zealand in real time. Remembering that was the Internet of that time, the member's hidden profile info included his registered domain name which listed his home address in New Zealand. I searched Google for an e-mail address for any law enforcement agency and wrote them.

A couple of months later, the Senior Supervisor from their communications center sent me a link to this human interest article about it from the NZ Times.

Thanks, AT and all the great Mods and Admins who joined our force and gave me some of the best memories of my life! 😎 👍

I can't believe it's shutting down. It's been anandtech and ars technica for me everyday since... Forever.

Others have already posted this but yes, Chips and Cheese is awesome. Deep, deep, dives into all sorts of chips. And of course Dr Ian is there. It's a young site that's very promising.

Loved the forums under your leadership! You made it fun, with the mystery mods. I remember showing up in person at Russ' store, and he was like wtf do I do with this 18 year old chick from the forums...

ATOT changed my life. To this day my best friends and husband are people I met here. Changed the whole course of my life, for the better. Thank you for helping create the space for that.

Boomer - The link to my song still works. I wrote it in 2006, and if you ever listened to the lyrics, what scares me is that they're as true and relevant, today, if not more so.

Who's Watching Over Who's Watching Over You?

Words and Music by Harvey Rubens
Copyright © 2006

Verse 1:

I see men looking over their shoulder,
Running hard just trying to stay alive,
And they say that it's gonna get colder before it gets better.

At the time of the crime, who believed us?
We all took a fall on the ride,
When the powers that be had deceived us to leave us the debtor.

Chorus:

And who's watching over who's watching over you?
Tell me who's telling who's telling you what to do what to do?

Verse 2:

All the forces of war were compelling,
And blacker than coal in the night,
And the lies they were telling, they sell in the name of their savior.

And they silence the voices arising,
From those who would show us the light,
With their guys with their spies in the skies watching you and your neighbor.

Chorus:

Verse 3:

I see men who are trying to squeeze us,
And taking whatever they can,
While they buy those who try to appease us with scraps from their table.

It gets harder each day to break even.
This wasn't a part of my plan.
Time is right to be fighting or leaving this tower of Babel.

Chorus:

@Harvey

Warms my heart you are not pushing up daisies.

I remember calling the police in Christchurch and them telling me I was not the first one to call.

So many awesome things have happened in these forums. How many times did we help members win things with the "Anandtech Effect"? Multiple members meeting here and getting married or at least becoming S.O.s. Hot Deals. ATOT meetups. It was so cool to see members hanging out in real life and being able to put a face with the posts. I have met a couple of members IRL myself.

The main site stopped being relevant to me for new content when the doc left. I have referenced so many old articles though. Hope they get preserved. Anand's style and methodology always drew me in.

RIP Anandtech. My longtime educator and advisor. 🫶

Yep, my feet are still above ground, and daisies are still under them. 😎

I first contacted New Zealand police on July 1, 2009. I posted a running narration the texts of those conversations as it was happening in the hidden Mod forum, and I shared the experience with my family and local friends, but this is the first time I've heard about anyone else contacting them at the time.

Great to know others think like that and are similarly motivated. 👍

You know you're getting old when everything around you starts to die. Movie stars, musicians, friends, lovers, parents, brothers and sisters. Getting old is no fun, just ask my back and knees..lol. You'll be missed. So long old friend, you will never be replaced, but you will be remembered.
