Haven’t posted here in forever, but I saw the news and just wanted to say thanks to this site for the memories. I had an even older account dating back to 2000 or so. I first found this site through the Hot Deals forum during after some incident with the MyCoupons forum. I was a college student during the dotcom boom days and all the crazy deals available at the time kept me on these forums all day. This was my Reddit before Reddit.

Hard to believe it’s been 20+ years. I still recognize some of the names in this thread, haha.

During an era when Dualcore and Quadcore CPUs were the flagship products for AMD and Intel, Anand himself goes out of his way to hunt down a low power 28-core Xeon server CPU to run tests vs Apple's dual core A12, except every single test was a single core benchmark. No surprise he got a job offer from Apple's marketing department immediately after.
More comically, the "review" gets purged off Anandtech.com after it's exposed for the blatant adverview it is.
Too bad Shimpi, but Archive.org has your Xeon8176 vs Apple shill piece on record for all time.
This place turned into a shithole shill factory over a decade ago. Good riddance.

Used to run 4 different forums over the course of 20 years and recently combined them all into one. If traffic actually picked up I could easily add/rearrange categories as needed too.

Mosh has a kinda-dead forum too at neffers.com. If you don't remember Mosh you probably don't belong there.

Yeah, it is very nice that they not only keep all the articles up, but even keep the forum up and running.

The writing had really been on the wall for a while now, SSD reviews vanished, GPU reviews vanished, and the one/two guys actually good at in depth CPU reviews went independent.

I'm glad corporate is keeping the forums around but I don't feel optimistic about their promise of keeping us around indefinitely. If they have no intentions of trying to retain or hire new writers for the site I can't see them keeping the investment here for much longer than the next 5 years.

It all just leaves me wondering, maybe things could have been different. But maybe people abandoning tech journalism is just the natural course.

Oh come on, Ian and Andrei at the very least turned in some really great pieces before they moved on to greener pastures. Yeah Anand was a bit of an Apple maniac shortly before he sold off the site, but that didn't stop the main site from running some good articles at the same time. Let's not disrespect the dead overmuch, hmm?

Glad the forums are still going to be around. I was thinking, the whole site was going to be gone. I've always wondered when some members die... but it would be like everyone would die with a pull of a plug.

Crap GPU or CPU?He was not afraid say nobody should buy it because its waste of money.From today point of view unimaginable.After he left anandtech was just like other sites not having balls to criticize overpriced CPUs or GPUs + they fell really behing in number of content to channels like HW unboxed.

You still see this integrity with some prominent YT reviewers, not being afraid to say that something is meh or overpriced for what you're getting.
