That may have changed over the years though as they've tried to squeeze every last % of efficiency out of the oil. But if that's the case, it's a safety hazard since you're just a blower motor failure away CO poisoning.

Mine operates purely on the heat of the exhaust gas.

I see what you're saying though. At the very least though, do what you can to:
a) insulate the part of the chimney that goes thru the attic. It looks like you have a brick exterior. If that's true and it's not just decorative, you probably don't have a lot to worry about until you get into the general vicinity of the attic.

b) besides fire resistant insulation, try to create as wide of a diameter as possible to separate the piping from the soffits and roof.

I honestly think you would have been better off building a masonry chimney, but now you're talking the big bucks. That's how this house was built.

At one point I was a little concerned with CO infiltration since even masonry eventually gets cracks. So years ago I got a buttload of CO sensors. I would definitely advise that for you too. Think of the kitties. Heehee

Furnaces also have a blower for the exhaust, it's a smaller motor inside. Although come to think of it some of the low efficiency ones did rely only on draft, like water heaters. They used a chimney setup similar to a wood stove.

Masonry chimneys are not really made anymore, the stainless stuff is pretty much the way to go. Need to have at least one inch clearance to combustibles and it's good to go. Apparently it doesn't get that hot. Like you can touch it with your hands and it will be uncomfortably hot but not burn you. I will probably shove a bunch of roxul insulation in the soffit area where the chimney goes just to ensure heat does not accumulate in there and cause ice damming.

If I ever do adopt though, it's going to have to be a bonded pair of kittens. I don't want them growing up knowing how 'groovy' the outdoors are . . . at least in spring and autumn . . . when it's not raining.

That said, I'm not above swooping in and grabbing a couple of feral kittens. Mom will get over it. She probably can't count much above '3' anyway.

Do it! They are fun especially 2. I got 2 cats, they were brought in separately at the shelter so were not bonded, but they are best buddies now.

Hand sliced pepperoni, sauteed baby bella mushrooms, fresh chopped habaneros, (my own) tomato sauce, fresh grated Parmesan, fresh shredded low moisture whole milk mozzarella, provolone and applewood smoked cheddar, fresh basil. Topped with fresh grated Romano.

This week, my neighbors gave me a cut of their basil plant and I am in the process of trying to transplant it. I used some of the leaves today for today's pizza. They also had a couple of habanero plants growing and told me I could pick some of the peppers if I needed them. And so I did! I picked the two most mature peppers and they were just starting to turn a little color. They were green and yellow. Would have been hotter if they were orange. But that was the best I can do for free!

I can just see it now, forum gets set to read only, nobody can post, but the birthday thread is the only thing that does in fact go through. Those who are listed as having a birthday can post in that thread, but just for the day. We all adapt to this and learn to have discussions but can only post once a year and have to quote stuff from the other threads.
