Weekly DC Stats - 01SEP2024

Welcome back to the Weekly Distributed Computing Statistics…

Last Friday, we had some good news coming in, but also some rather sad news (thread in the CPU subforum, thread in Forum Issues).

I am sure TeAm AnandTech will keep going, and hopefully keep going strongly. But one avenue of attracting new members is gone now. (I for one joined — first the TeAm and only after this the forum — when the front page had an article about a DC team contest up, I don't know how many years after I have already been into reading the site. Until then I vaguely knew about Distributed Computing but never tried it myself.)

Nostalgia aside — the stats of past week have some upwards trends in Amicable, Folding, GPUGrid, and Private GFN Server, among various mostly moderate ups and downs all over the place. I guess significant changes of production are easier to spot by a bystander in GPU projects with their tendency of much higher PPD compared with CPU projects.

Our calendar shows a PrimeGrid challenge starting three weeks from now; then a pause until end of October which will have another PrimeGrid challenge and a Boinc Games sprint with overlap.

In the event we have any non-crunching AnandTech readers who happen to wander into this thread: Distributed Computing is where you allow your computing device (smartphones/tablets included) to work on things like medical research, mathematical stuff, sifting through telescope data to further the field of Astronomy, and many other 'citizen science' projects.
