We have ads?
Yes we do!

Over the years I have found many a beneficial product and / or service by clicking on the ads that are relevant to my interests, and I have Anandtech to thank for introducing me to said prospects.

Thank you Anandtech, thank you.

Pls don't make all of us get tiktok accounts. That would be a hate crime.
Why is everyone so against Reddit? For the most part people are respectful as long as you choose your subreddits wisely. I just like that there's constantly new discussions happening.

Reddit's administration will fuck over and monetize you in any way they can. As a concept, the voting system is garbage, and that applies to lemmy also. The principle is good, but it doesn't account humans being worthless shitbags.

So sad. This site was so incredibly helpful over the years. I understand the difficulty in monetizing it in today's day and age, but there had to be more ways to do so.

The issue with Reddit (and social media platforms in general) is you are basically bound by their own rules, systems, etc and reliant on them not doing stupid crap to screw you over. Could be as simple as just a shitty new interface or a big site wide rule change that screws over entire subreddits, and just overall you're stuck dealing with their policies and not really independent. I saw a lot of that when I was a mod for one of the Canada subs. I decided to pull out. I was pretty lenient as I don't really believe in removing opinion based content, only spam, or people being pure assholes, but Reddit leans very left so they really frown upon certain content and as a mod you're expected to delete it or the sub can potentially get shut down or taken over.

That and the Reddit format is really not well suited for having proper discussions especially longer term, it's more about posting one thing, then everyone can comment on it, then by next day that thread is buried. Threads that are more than a few days old are pretty much forgotten about, unless someone relies to one of your posts you'll get notified so that sub conversation can kind of continue but nobody else will really see it unless they specifically go to that thread.

With that said, maybe everyone should in fact at least bookmark or remember the https://www.reddit.com/r/atot sub. If the site does die at some point in years from now, at least it's a place to go to decide about what forum is the next one to move to.

Come to think of it, maybe Gamers Nexus or Linus Tech Tips can buy Anandtech from Future. That seems like it would be the best bet really. They could at least keep it running as is, or merge it.

The thing I don't like is that you're not seeing comments chronologically. They get voted up or down so you have no sense of continuity.

My sense of time is already pretty dodgy so that sort of structure just makes me feel even more . . . I guess 'dissociated' is the best word I can come up with at the moment.

I do see how, with the right sort of audience, it can highlight the most relevant comments. But again, it's the audience that does that - or not. I don't know this for a fact but I suspect that 'relevance' isn't always the main criterion for up-voting something.

Reddit is an information gold mine compared to dedicated message boards. Really good is the likes of military reddits, where they put forth complaints about goings within service, along with new recruits...and the a few memorable provacative ones who are better off staying civilians.

Some things are no different, like all the people who like or respect Brahms, the most deficient and incompetent composer to ever grace this Earth.

LoL, ya think?! It's an 'I agree' or 'I disagree' button. That breaks the whole system and turns it into a popularity contest, with some interesting comments downvoted into oblivion because they don't match the hive mind.

I don't downvote anything, anywhere. People's words can speak for themselves without me giving a negative endorsement. I upvote as a small reward. I may think it's insightful, or interesting. It may be a finger in the dike to help counteract a downvote spree of a good comment by idiots, or I may simply just [Like] it, right or wrong. They aren't all for the "right" reasons, but the system's fucked anyway, so I'll give a little dopamine hit to posters of comments I like.

Does one ever truly leave ATOT? Anyway The Verge brought me here and to my surprise ATOT is still barely kicking.

ROSSMAN LIVES! 😍 picking the last day of the past decade was an epic way to leave, much more effective than picking some random day.

yes we have been on the proverbial life support over the last few years. occasionally some big names leave (ponyo stock drama, usandthem mysterious drama, shortylickens the usual drama) and that gives us just enough drama to keep us going.

good to see you one last time on this once central part of the internet tech scene, and the longest-running online community i've ever been a part of

Time to buy a lottery ticket, might I suggest the phone numbers 866-286-8069 (866-ATOT-0-MY)?
Dude…the Rossman!

It’s a shame that it took the demise of the main Anandtech to drag you out of hiding…but we’re glad you stopped in!

n00b question, how do I multi-quote and reply? After clicking quote on multiple posts then clicking quote, it only quotes one post?

Feel free to reply here or ring me at 866-286-8069. Sorry to whoever called from area code 937, I was driving.

Any idea where I can find some high res non-pixelated Fusetalk avatars, namely Office Guy 6?

i was never able to find any

oh you know what really grinds my gears these days is that nobody calls them avatars anymore - they're a "PFP", AKA profile pic

something like discord or twitch caused everyone under 30 to switch to a different word, and think that everyone who says avatar is old

i'm not sure TBH, i've never quite figured it out. things got all wonky after AT switched from the previous forum software to this current one.

and they didn't bring the smilies over either

i had to scour the internet and save as many i as could from extinction

Just beware…if you have +Quote other threada, it will offer those as well..
