Mrs. Ned & I are watching THE TERROR on Netflix. I've wanted to watch this for a long time, I've heard really good things. 2 episodes in, and we're both hooked.

As you don't remember much of the Abyss,

I still think it's the Abyss...mainly because the environment and design of that film pretty solidly matches your description. Also, as I think you said you were young, and this was a some time ago, I'm going to go with you not really understanding all that was going on in that film at the time + fuzzy memory.

There is a bit of a rebellion scenario where they end up having to deal with one or more of their nutso crew members. It isn't a monster movie, but there is "a weird thing" going on. The crew is a mixture of scientists and engineers, doing deep sea research, mining, etc. They do sit around monitors in tight rooms and look at stuff. The water pool docking area for the submarine and individuals is the same as what you describe.

I think you should check it out soon. It is a fantastic film.
It is great. I just watched it a few weeks ago. I had tried to watch it a few times in recent years but it was not on any streaming service, even to rent or buy.

I watched American Fiction. It was really good. It did feel at times that it was two movies in one and we were getting more of the drama and less of the edgy movie. But to me it all came together with a solid ending that tied everything together. And after thinking about it as the credits were playing, everything was dependent on the other - in fact there were more than two movies in here, and they were all necessary to each other. Movies about life about movies about life and life about movies, etc...

i felt the same way. At the beginning it feels like 2 completely different films, and it does really come together as 1 around the middle part, but it nearly lost me before i got there.

Wife and I watched a show called The Accident on Netflix- well I watched the first episode and started playing on my laptop while she binged the rest of the episodes so I was only halfway paying attention. I was not a fan. The actual "accident" was literally that, an accident, but the characters just completely go off the rails saying it was murder and the revenge plots kick in. 5/10 because I think one of the actresses is hot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eréndira_Ibarra

i watched

Corner Office - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13849558/reference/

Absurdist drama about a office worker in an oppressively bleak office, who one day notices one of the office rooms is both unused, and also contains a very lovely office - 1970s style wood furniture, big desk, think "Mad Men". He loves this office so much that he occasionally pops in to have a breather from normal office duties, and this inspires him so much that he manages to produce excellent work results, in fact so excellent that he is being considered for a promotion.

Except that, the room doesn't exist.

The protagonist *knows* the room is real, because it's only through the room's power that he has managed to generate work files so excellent, they are being adopted as the company standard. And the same people who claim the room is not real, are instead praising the files as very much real. How can the room be not real, if its results are real?

.. it was .. was it good? was it bad? it was an art film, visually impressive but, it makes it clear what point it will make later on, and then takes a long ass time to get there. And while the acting and dialogue are great, making the journey to "the point" much more enjoyable, it's still a too long film to get through to get to the conclusion.

This is the kind of film that you can really only watch by yourself. Because the theme is mental isolation, so any kind of external contact will probably make you lose all interest in the protagonist's slow death by corporate work.
But, the film also isn't some kind of anti-capitalist manifesto. No, it is only interested in showing you it can set up this story correctly and tell it as expected through various film resources - the set, the occasional shot of a snow-covered parking lot filled with identical cars, the lack of humanity in every single detail of this office, all very, very clever thing that still do not make for a good film.

My vote: 6/10 and even then, probably not a good choice for entertainment.

i .. erm .. sort-of watched

Titane - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10944760/reference/

which left me reeling from the awfulness.

"Body horror" surreal drama that, being nothing but critic-bait, won a shitload of stuff but is absolutely ghastly.
The .. urm .. the story is of a young girl that has a car accident and this leaves her mentally disturbed, so much so that she just up n' kills a shitload of people. That's the story.
Oh yeah and she "has sex with cars"
And it's in French, if it wasn't fucking awful enough already.

To be clear, this is a visually-striking, wonderfully acted chunk'o shit. In the span of a couple of minutes we have the protagonist introduced, then there is a played-straight scene about a fan confessing his love for the protagonist, then the protagonist fucking murders the guy, and then she finds a ghost car where she (naked) is put in bondage when she enters it and has an orgasm, "fucking the car".

Then there's more murder and finally she dies giving birth to a half-car half-human baby.

Yeah ok so, The Green Knight makes more sense than this film.
There's tons of (non-titillating)nudity, tons of violence (but not the good kind), tons of blood and it's just mentally aggressive. But, i don't think
Titane has a point to make, but just wants to shock you into thinking you've watching something worthwile, while in reality the filmmaker hates you.

My vote; stay the fuck away, 4.5/10
if you want violence and gore, watch Bone Tomahawk instead.

ive been watching Futurama season .. nine .. which some websites call season twelve .. but they jumped from season 7 to season 11 so wtf.
And it suffers from Simpsons Syndrome. They need to put out far more episodes than they got inspiration for, so they hire a whooole bunch of writers, so occasionally, through combination of writer_41 and director_58 you have an episode which is really funny, but most of the time they are extremely predictable and boring.

S09E03 - The Temp - was fucking hilarious, S09E06 was decent, the others were shit.

Deadpool & Wolverine

I think they needed to work on the plot, tone down the fourth wall breaks, probably lose the 'dancing to nsync' bit at the start too. For me it felt like the difference between a generally funny film and an intentionally comedic film that just had funny bits in. Probably at least a third of the humour revolved around "look at me, I got a third Deadpool movie".

Does anyone have a good explanation about why the TVA needed Deadpool in the first place?

I found this comment on reddit which is probably the reason, but if it is, that's pretty weaksauce:

redditor said:
The whole plot is all metacommentary on the fate of movie franchises and I'm baffled why people don't get that. It puts the B in "subtle".
He wanted to transplant Deadpool into the MCU. That's it.
There were no more movies upcoming movies in the FoX-Men franchise, Deadpool was the only one with any projects with audience interest. Paradox is doing what the audience has been calling for, that Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool be kept for the MCU. Not his friends and family, just him, because he's a part of the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise that's still profitable. The rest was scrapped ("dropped into the void") with the Disney/Fox merger and we will receive updated, MCU-conform versions of the characters for which Marvel Studios reacquired the IP.

The whole Nsync dance off was wacky. I could have done without it too.

The plot was weak, but after a few minutes, you just kind of rolled with it. There were some funny bits, such as Captain America's "Avenger's Assemble" scene, and some decent callbacks to previous Marvel movies, be they from FOX or somewhere else.

Loved Emma Corrin. She stole all of the scenes she was in. An evil part of me wanted her to succeed.

i also watched Deadpool & Wolverine - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6263850/reference/

I have to say, it's unfair to compare this film to a film made by .. uh .. a "serious" filmmaker. Compared to the rest of the MCU, which takes itself waaaaaaaaay too seriously, i think this film hits the sweet spot between mindless teenage power fantasy and bizarre adult comedy. Some things were still way too "MCU" (specially the main antagonist, genderbender-Xavier chick), and the showdown between the Blade / Elektra etc group and the other "superheroes from Wish.com" bunch. And it was too long. And it could have been even better.

But, i laughed. Idk, five or six times, which is more than the number of laughs i'm normally allowed in a whole week. So, in that perspective,

8/10

It's just too bad that there aren't any drugs that could help me tolerate Ryan Reynolds

Yeah I only saw a bit of Deadpool and he annoyed the shit out of me. Maybe I was stoned, but I don't think so. I'll have to try it one more time.

I'm not treating it as a "serious" film. Deadpool 1 had a lot more cohesion, it got on with the plot but there were plenty of laughs along the way. Fundamental things about this film make little sense*, and it got lost in the woods looking for more laughs.

* - another example being why did he want to be an Avenger when he previously didn't want to join the X-Men's "little boy band", and why did rejection affect him so much, the answer seems to be something like "he and Vanessa aren't getting on so well and blah blah blah"

In contrast, Deadpool 1 had solid, very simple foundations being a) sweet dick-kicking revenge (you want to see him take out Francis, you know it's going to be emotionally and violently raw and you're like "yes, that's why I'm here") and b) irreverent humour.

I completely agree with you saying "it's too MCU", it's like they spent 20% of the movie taking the piss out of the MCU (which is richly deserved but about as necessary as an hour-length piss-take of Donald Trump) then they do yet another VFX "baddie is going to destroy the world" extravaganza, which is my number 1 criticism of MCU movies. I'm sure some dickhead will argue that they came up with that finale as some kind of piss-take, but instead of going after such low-hanging fruit, how about showing the MCU how it should be done?

The Perfect Couple - 6/10 - Netflix mini-series with Nicole Kidman and some others you'd probably recognize. Entertaining enough as a who-dunnit type show where someone gets killed the night before a big wedding. Think Knives Out or something along those lines. A little humor, acting was ok, some f'ed up situations. Bingeable. We watched all 5(?) episodes on Saturday night.
