I honestly wish we had a new topic for each shooting so it highlights the sheer volume of needless murders. Cramming them all in one topic is like hiding the real horror so it's out of sight, out of mind. Nothing is going to change unless the truth becomes undeniable for everyone.

Preaching to the choir here. Even the gun nutters on ATP&N want gun restrictions. So not much use attempting to point out every single gun incident.

All the 2A absolutists, please answer the following...

Guns are the #1 killers of our kids. Is this the price we must pay for the current version of 2A?

Yep. It is also the price we pay for saving money/effort on mental health in this country.

Whether it's worth it or not depends on who you talk to. Most agree it's not worth it, however that has to translate to legislation.

FBI visited the home of the shooter on suspicion of threats. Nothing FBI could do other than passing information onto locals. Parents claimed son didn't have access to their hunting rifles. Parents should have removed their guns from the house.

Yes. The price for freedom requires sacrifice. All praise the Lord.

What I see is that while you are certainly right in my opinion, knowing what that truth actually is is not possible when people think they already know what it is and that is almost everybody. You can't tell anybody anything about an issue they know nothing real about if they already believe they have all the answers. This is just another of those kinds of issues. People are so worried about being ridiculed for ignorance they can't admit to it. Ask yourself, did you hear what I just said or is it just more of that idiot, Moonbeam?

Likewise, pictures of the dead kids should be on the front page of every newspaper. We need to stop hiding the horror that gun fetishes cause.

So has every other country on the planet fixed mental health of ever teenage boy, or do they just not allow teenagers to have easy access to guns?

No way that'll happen. Guns are more important to them than their son's life and much more important to them than the lives of other kids. Of course they spin it by saying it'll never happen to them or their family.

I know that you, like most people that treat guns as part of their identity, will ignore all information that shows guns are bad for society. You will then claim other people that don't share your fearfulness of the world are ignorant of the subject. You let the fake feelings of safety that guns provide you blind you to reality, and for those empty hits of dopamine you are willing to sacrifice thousands of children a year.

This is a raw topic so I understand if it won't be met well, but no, most countries are not fixing mental health either, and while they are preventing mass shooting events by not providing ample access to firearms, they're also not dealing with the same root issue that affects Americans.

If you fix the gun issue, you don't fix the mental health issue (or at least not the ones not associated with shooting events). If you fix the mental health issues, you'll very probably fix whatever causes people to become obsessed with firearms to begin with, much less actually use them to kill other humans.

I just don't believe there is any realistic path to "fixing the mental health issue." I think that is up there with "we need to fix the human condition." I think we should improve mental healthcare, but we aren't going to fix everyone all the time.

The reasoning I give each time this happens (fuck that's a depressing statement) is that I think you can wish for gun control in the US until you're blue in the face and it will literally never happen, at least not in the current political climate. We've seen actual kindergarteners gunned down with no response from our political leadership so I've written that path off completely.

Yes, the alternative is a moonshot, trillion dollar, tax the rich and save the rest of us program. Yes I think that's more likely to work than any gun ban.
