What I see is that while you are certainly right in my opinion, knowing what that truth actually is is not possible when people think they already know what it is and that is almost everybody. You can't tell anybody anything about an issue they know nothing real about if they already believe they have all the answers. This is just another of those kinds of issues. I just don't believe there is any realistic path to "fixing the mental health issue." I think that is up there with "we need to fix the human condition." If you fix the gun issue, you don't fix the mental health issue (or at least not the ones not associated with shooting events). If you fix the mental health issues, you'll very probably fix whatever causes people to become obsessed with firearms to begin with, much less actually use them to kill other humans.
The reasoning I give each time this happens (fuck that's a depressing statement) is that I think you can wish for gun control in the US until you're blue in the face and it will literally never happen, at least not in the current political climate.
