I spent yesterday morning hand clearing so I could get the stringline up and see the property line for the first time. Survey was completed last friday.
Then I grubbed off some of the brush, and spent some time with the laser figuring out what will work.
I started borrowing from the lower level, some excellent river bottom sandy rocky stuff, and rejected the big boulders right back into the hole as I went.
Today I hit that project hard and borrowed about 200 tons and completed the fill portion.
I did not get out the laser today.
Everything in front of me is now a cut in some heavy clay soils that retain water well.
Tomorrow:
I will shape the slopes in the next picture and trim them up for a consistent 11 foot top, ~12' from that stringline.
Hammer the surface and slopes with that hoe pack above.
Cut those good growing soils, and use it to cover and fair out the slope so I can seed it immediately and catch this fall growing season.
This is roughly 10% grade. The dump truck backed right up there and the lower portion got a half inch of rain overnight. Good stuff!
This is an old farm road that bisects my route at approximately subgrade. 4~5' cut ahead on the other side of it.
That little bit of brush on the left?
It has a raptor nest, likely red tail hawk in it only 8' off the ground. I was careful to preserve it, cutting limbs of a bush I was removing. I hope they come back, I will set a web cam in the nearby snag or the big cedar.
