From the Reddit comments, it seems to have had the same problem and Sears, management that almost seems to have been determined to kill it off.

BL was (and so far still is) one of my main stops on shopping days. Got all kinds of stuff there over the years including the blankets I'm laying under now.

Just read that myself. A year ago I'd have been kind of upset. I use them almost exclusively for food. They get interesting items at good prices. A new GroceryOutlet opened in the same strip center BigLots is in, and they have more of what I'm looking for at equivalent prices. It's distressed merchandise, so it's cheap, and always changing. Makes it fun shopping, and I can try premium goods at a discount price. If I really like the item, I can buy it later at full price, but it didn't take a lot of money for the gamble.

I don't want to see BigLots go away, but it won't distress me either.

I love how the morons make it so fast and easy to spot them these days. All they need is a couple words, if even.

-Maybe it wasn't an insult?

I mean, if your business fails to adapt and innovate for a modern customer base you should go out of business?

Bidenomics... Is just capitalism?

I didn't know BigLots had food. I thought they just had stuff like Bed Bath & Beyond and novelty items.

I think there was one near me, but they may have closed already.

Please don't try to rationalize MAGA stupidity.

It's kinda ironic that BL and Dollar Tree have struggled so mightily these few years. You would think in a high inflation environment that consumers would need cheaper options. Obviously execution was flawed, as Walmart and other options such as Grocery Outlet have been successful.

Capitalism is a misnomer. Any entity that relies on inflows of income is going to face the same issues. How to avoid having costs greater than incoming revenue. It just so happens that a large swath of Americans make terrible treasurers of their own inflows, never mind external entities.

Never been, but we do have a pretty nice store with what I imagine is a similar theme. The diff is that the stuff they sell tends to be available in normal, human accessible quantities.

I turned a former friend on to it and she was impressed by the pricing. They have food of a sort but mainly sweets, nuts and other long shelflife sundries.

I was raised by 2 people who lived thru the Great Depression. So a lot my behavior is hard coded.

I've trying to delete a lot that code though. An extra hundred bucks on my weekly Whole Paycheck order isn't going to break me at least not until the 1000 bucks on recreational drugs does, and that won't be any time soon.

The food selection used to be better. I'm not sure what happened. They got cleaned out during the pandemic, and never recovered. Maybe their buyer died/quit. Good stuff still shows up, but less frequently.

Usually a fairly large section of canned and boxed goods plus snack foods and drinks. They tried to go grocery for a while with dairy abd frozen so they could take the SNAP/EBT cards, but the prices were too high for the small package sizes.

Thing is, along side the name brands are odd things like real ginger ale, Asian sauces and types of boxed cakes and cookies grocery stores don't have. It's like a treasure hunt sometimes and I've come out of there with some really good stuff I've never seen anywhere else.

One of the Reddit post was complaining about how in recent years they would unload a truck full of stuff they knew they'd be tossing in the dumpster in a few months because no one would buy it. Oddball home decorating trinkets, wall hangings and cheap off-brand kids toys.

Our store has some aisles I just don't pass through because I know they're full of that stuff.

To me, the place is almost like a Target. I have towels, bedding, clothes, electronics, hardware and kitchen appliances I bought there over the years. Even the small swim pool in my back yard came from there.

They didn't really advertise here. We got a great deal on a sectional for the boy. Bought it here and they held it for 30 days in PA until we brought him to school.

- How can capitalism be real if our eyes aren't real?

Used to shop there on occasion with my ma as a kid. I can't remember the last time I set foot in one -- 20 years ago?

Fishing for transactions and not being "public" can exist in non-capitalistic systems or no system at all. Or in matters not related to capitalism(whatever various non-profit causes or churches that need funding).

The point is not you pathetic strawman that capitalism isn't real. It's that the behaviors associated with it exist very much independently of the features of capitalism(flexibility in price setting and that private individuals can form companies by paying the government).

That's Bidenomics.
Can you share with us what Joe Biden did personally that brought the company down, what policies he made that drove the mis-management of the company etc. please.

All this. Plus...

Recently my husband had some mobility issues and we were looking for a power lift recliner. We shopped several furniture stores and he found one he liked. It was Broyhill and varied in price from $699 to $899 plus delivery. We went home and I remembered that there was some Broyhill furniture at Big Lots. Checked their website and what do you know? They had the exact same Broyhill power lift recliner for $389 with free shipping. When it arrived husband wasn't home so I unboxed it and put it together. Took about 15 minutes and surprise! surprise! It worked.

So yes, I will miss them.

The one in the town about 12 miles from us closed a few years ago. I think it's now a mexican grocery store and meat market. The wife used to go there to get some of the usual stuff like towels, blankets etc. Every once in awhile she'll find a shelf or something she could use in her classroom. I never really went into the store myself. The one in the town about 30 miles away closed more recently. Probably earlier this year or late last year. My sis-in-law used to go there all the time. She's bummed it's been closed.

I just bought a new recliner, and Big Lots did have quite good prices. But they don't ship for free anymore. It's $150, and takes 4-6 weeks. I'm surprised you found Broyhill at a regular furniture store. They are owned by Big Lots now. https://www.broyhillfurniture.com/ All links lead to BL.

I knew they weren't doing too well, so I got a different brand at Menards.
